Tucked away in a small stone building in Roseland, Caspers Coins is a rare gem offering collectibles, appraisals and repairs, and is the go-to location for all things numismatic and bullion in and around Michiana. The unassuming shop houses a bustling business that has been servicing collectors and enthusiasts for more than 40 years. What once started as a mom-and-pop hobby shop is now one of two locations bringing in millions in revenue.

Caspers Coins has a history dating back to the 1950s, when a young man by the name of Harley Casper indulged in his hobby of buying and selling coins among his fellow enthusiasts. A hobby that he would continue nurturing for the next 30-plus years, coin collecting eventually evolved into an in-demand business venture. His wife Betty would join forces with her husband and, together, they would open the doors to Caspers Coins in 1983. They would ultimately pass the helm over to current president Justin Kollar.

Kollar spent much of his childhood in and around the shop, developing a love for the business. Little did he know he would return to the venture in adulthood and lead the charge for the Caspers legacy.

In the spirit of family enterprise, the Caspers fostered a love for coin collecting in myself. I was the son they never had and, over the years, I grew up in the business. When I returned from the army, I went full time with Harley and Betty,” Kollar says.

In 2010, Caspers Coins would move into their current location at 214 North Dixie Way to continue their path to expansion. Kollar now oversees multimillion-dollar sales from coins, currency, gold, silver, estate jewelry and much more. One of the most notable pieces from their collection is a rare 1861 Paquet $20 gold coin, valued at more than $89,000.

Currently we are the market makers in gold and silver bullion, collector coins from the United States and abroad, and estate jewelry at discounted prices,” Kollar says. “We buy broken gold, silver and platinum jewelry, silver, gold and platinum coins, along with collector coins from around the globe.”

Their business venture has been so successful that they opened a second location in Goshen in partnership with Kollars uncle, David Kollar. That location has been successfully operating since 2010.

For anyone looking to buy or sell items, Caspers Coins is a trusted local and vetted expert. You can take part in auction sales on their website, view eBay listings and look for upcoming coin shows. They will also buy your old jewelry.

Kollar does want to stress that Caspers Coins has a friendly and professional staff with knowledgeable experts ready to help everyone from novices and first-time jewelry sellers to experienced numismatists and master collectors. Their store provides a low-pressure environment, offering fair pricing for buyers and sellers alike.

Casper’s brings a friendly atmosphere to your buying and selling pleasure,” he says. “We are here to educate our customers about the value of their items. Not like people see on the pawn shop shows. We provide a comfortable and trustworthy experience when we are buying and selling items.”

Kollar encourages any skeptics to check out their reviews and come visit their stores in Goshen and South Bend.
