5th Annual Backpack Event
Tomorrow is the 5th Annual Backpack Event hosted by the Fall Creek Township Office. This event puts backpacks filled with school supplies in the hands of Hamilton Southeastern District students in need.
To accommodate the growing need, this program has steadily increased the number of backpacks given out each year. When it began in 2011, 24 backpacks were given out. Tomorrow, 109 backpacks will be handed out. Backpacks are divided by grades with supplies targeted specifically to those in each group. In addition to HSE district students, the office was able to send 17 backpacks to Alternatives for kids residing at the shelter. This is the closest domestic violence shelter to Fall Creek Township.
“Our goal is to put as many backpacks with supplies in the hands of students in our community that need them,” said Jeff Hern, Trustee. “Back to school is an expensive time for families, especially those already struggling to make ends meet. Despite a student’s home situation, they deserve to start the school year with the tools they need to succeed.”
HSE District Families were notified about the event through their schools and our private email list. Notifications were also posted on their website (www.fallcreektownshipoffice.net), as well as their Facebook and Twitter pages. Anyone wanting to be notified of special offerings such as the backpack program, break food bags, adult education and finance classes, etc. can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the list.
This program is funded by donations from various non-profit groups and organizations using the communitroom at no charge. To fill in any gaps, monies collected for community room rentals are funneled back into the community through projects like this.
