In our first episode, KJ and Tom Britt are just trying to figure this whole podcast thing out. With years of experience in radio and a few popular podcasts of her own, KJ reunites with Tom after an 11 year sabbatical from the Smiley Morning Show.
Spark Fishers “ignited by First Internet Bank” is back for 2021 after being cancelled last year due to Covid-19. Instead of a weekend event, the July 4th celebration is a week-long event starting on Tuesday, June 22 and ending with fireworks on the evening of July 4th at Municipal Plaza and at Geist Waterfront Park. Tom got some of the details wrong on the Geist “Blast on the Bridge” on social media earlier in the week which caused a bit of a social storm.
State Road 37 project is on schedule with the opening of the 146th St. intersection last week. This week, the 131st St. exit will close on the west side. Remember, St. Rd. 37 will never close! Last week, Tom hosted a podcast interview with Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness and Parks Director Sarah Sandquist to talk about the new Geist Waterfront Park. Across the street, Fishers just approved the zoning for the Marina Limited Partnership to build a 5,000 sq. ft. waterfront restaurant adjacent to the public boat ramp. Speculation abounds as to what restauranteur will come to Geist, including Tom’s wishes to have a White Castle restaurant to “class the place up a bit.” As for the Park, Phase 1 is underway which will include the public beach, fishing piers, parking, rest rooms, and playground. Fadness talks about the 2040 plan, the importance of the park to the overall Fishers parks plan, and the Bell Ford Bridge which is being relocated to span Fall Creek next to Florida Road.
Coming up on June 5th is the Race Away from Domestic Violence 5K benefiting Prevail here in Hamilton County. KJ spoke with organizer Laura Berry about the increased need during the pandemic, and how people can participate virtually or in person at the Indianapolis City Market.
