Entrepreneur Chris Collins is turning Vintage Spoon Ice Cream Social into a sweet franchise opportunity for aspiring business owners

Vintage Spoon LogoFor Chris Collins, owning a successful restaurant has always been about more than serving great food. It’s about creating memorable experiences, building relationships and giving people a reason to return.

Now, after more than three decades in the hospitality industry, Collins is looking to take that philosophy nationwide through Vintage Spoon Ice Cream Social, the popular ice cream shop that got its start at the Geist Marina.

Collins’ entrepreneurial journey began long before he started scooping ice cream. A graduate of Purdue University’s Restaurant and Hotel Management program, he developed his passion for hospitality through early restaurant jobs and internships with Marriott and other industry leaders.

After college, he spent six years with Levy Restaurants at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, overseeing everything from concessions and premium suites to private dining experiences.

For approximately 15 years, Collins operated as a franchisee of Greek’s Pizzeria, eventually owning two locations: Fishers and Geist. The experience gave him first-hand knowledge of both the opportunities and challenges of franchise ownership.

Running multiple pizza restaurants taught Collins the importance of consistent operations, employee training, cost management and building a recognizable brand. It also gave him a valuable perspective on what franchise owners need from the companies they represent.

After leaving Greek’s in 2022, Collins turned his attention to a different kind of food business: ice cream.

The Geist Marina shop, originally known as Crave Ice Cream Social, had already developed a loyal following among Geist Reservoir residents and visitors. Collins acquired the business around 2021–2022 and subsequently rebranded it as Vintage Spoon Ice Cream Social in 2025.

The new name became the foundation for a much larger vision – building a national franchise brand centered on premium ice cream, simple operations and a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere.

Unlike a traditional full-service restaurant, Vintage Spoon is designed around a streamlined business model. With no complicated kitchen operations, extensive food preparation or large restaurant staff, the concept offers prospective owners a potentially more manageable entry into the food-service industry.

The franchise program includes training, operational guidance, marketing assistance and support with real estate selection and store development.

The company is seeking franchise partners who share Collins’ enthusiasm for customer service, community involvement and entrepreneurship. Candidates don’t necessarily need restaurant experience, although a willingness to follow established systems and build a strong local team is important.

The franchise may appeal to first-time business owners, experienced restaurant operators looking to diversify, or entrepreneurs interested in owning multiple locations. Vintage Spoon also offers a semi-absentee ownership option for qualified operators.

Location selection will be a key component of the company’s expansion strategy. Ideal stores generally range from 1,200 to 2,000 square feet, with an emphasis on densely populated neighborhoods, walkable commercial districts and areas with consistent customer traffic.

Locations near residential communities, colleges, hotels, entertainment destinations and tourist attractions are particularly attractive. Outdoor seating is another advantage, allowing customers to gather and enjoy their treats.

The original Geist Marina location illustrates that philosophy, serving as a gathering place for families, boaters and neighborhood residents.

With additional expansion underway, including a Broad Ripple location, Collins believes Vintage Spoon can translate its neighborhood appeal into communities throughout Indiana and beyond.

The company lists a $49,000 initial franchise fee, with total startup investment estimated at approximately $260,000, depending on location and buildout requirements. Qualified candidates can also explore multi-unit development opportunities.

For Collins, however, the ultimate goal extends beyond opening additional ice cream shops. He wants to help other entrepreneurs experience the satisfaction of owning a business while becoming part of the communities they serve.

Prospective franchise owners can begin the conversation directly with Collins by calling 317-506-3952 or visiting the franchise website at vintagespoonicecreamsocial.com.
