LC’s Coach Holman on ‘Living the Dream’ in Beijing
Mike Holman, Lawrence Central’s head boys cross country and track and field coach, was “living the dream” as part of the Olympic Committee’s video analysis crew in Beijing. His role consisted of videotaping athletes in many different events in order for coaches to analyze and fine-tune their performance.Coach Holman has worked with the Junior Olympic committee for several
years and was honored to accept this promotion to the Beijing Olympics, where he had the opportunity to meet (and even dine with) several US top athletes, including Tyson Gay, Reese Hoffa and Sonya Richards.
“Thirty years of hard work, great athletes, outstanding assistants and great support from our school community have led to this opportunity,” Holman wrote on his Lawrence Township Schools-sponsored blog.
“This ranks as one of the finest experiences I have had professionally and will be hard to top,” said Holman, adding this qualifier: “Having said that, I have the most fun and enjoyment working with young people helping to develop their athletic dreams and laying a foundation for life.”
Who knows, maybe one of Holman’s young athletes will go on to become a future track and field superstar. Then he could be videotaping one of his own at the 2012 Olympics in London!
