Liven Up Your Apéro Gathering With Friends, Simple Food and Flowers

An apéro hour is essentially the French version of our American happy hour.

ApéroIngredients for your apéro:

  • Simple, light aperitif beverages, typically dry over sweet. For example, a dry rosé or white wine, botanical gin, French or Belgian beer, or yummy prosecco punch.
  • Light nibbles. Keep this super simple – no cooking! A charcuterie board, combination of hard and soft cheese, crackers, fresh fruit, raw vegetables, olives, spreads or dips, and chunks of white, milk and dark chocolate.
  • Flowers! Nothing says summer and party more than fresh seasonal flowers. If serving fruit, use the rind or skin to fill with summer’s vibrant floral colors. Small jars make gorgeous vessels to place fresh flowers throughout your room.

Preparation

  • An apéro hour is designed to focus more on your friends than on complicated prep work.
  • Keep your table simple with nibbles, small plates, forks or frilly toothpicks, ice buckets, and decanters for your beverages and glasses. Offer actual glasses, not cups. An apéro hour party is an elegant but simple gathering, not a happy hour.
  • Fresh flowers are a must to finish your setting. Select either one large arrangement to greet your guests and place on the table with your food, or divide and conquer with small glass jars scattered through the room.

Keep it simple, keep it easy, keep it relaxed. An apéro is a time to recap your day or week with good friends.
