Christian Care Communities

Nestled in friendly Middletown, Christian Care Communities’ Middletown is the perfect choice for those who are looking for a place to live that is welcoming, safe and active. Though this senior living community has been around for 20 years, Christian Care Communities acquired the property in December 2020. Founded in 1884, Christian Care Communities is Kentucky’s largest faith-inspired, non-profit provider of affordable senior living. Their thoughtful approach to senior living is based on many years of successful experience and the commitment to treat residents like family.

Christian Care Communities’ Middletown includes independent living garden and apartment homes, as well as assisted living suites.

The assisted living suites are ideal for those seniors who wish to maintain their independence while benefiting from a little extra help with everyday tasks when needed. Services are tailored to the unique needs of each resident, with a goal to balance active independence with trusted support. “Assisted living is still very much an independent type of setting,” says Executive Director Cliff Whalin. “We help people maintain and even improve their independence as much as possible, yet we have services, amenities and supports they can take advantage of.”

When meeting with potential assisted living residents, Whalin talks about the peace of mind benefit of their senior living community. With a support system to help with medication reminders and activities of daily living, along with fun and fellowship, Christian Care Communities – Middletown can help enhance the lives of older adults.

“A lot of older adults were isolated while living at home during the pandemic,” says Whalin. “Many of them weren’t eating right or getting good nutrition, and that can lead to weakness, falls, memory loss, and all sorts of negative things.”

Residents appreciate the social aspect that’s so critical to health and well-being as they have the chance to participate in a host of activities. “People lead busy lives,” says Whalin. “Being in a community like this provides peace of mind for both families and residents that these older adults will remain physically, mentally and socially engaged.”

Christian Care CommunitiesResidents appreciate that Christian Care Communities’ Middletown is on the smaller side because that makes traversing the grounds so much easier. The grounds include abundant green space, a walking path, pond and a gazebo. There’s also a chapel, beauty salon and whirlpool spa.

In our garden and apartments homes, residents enjoy retirement as it should be, living life to the fullest without chores, maintenance, and the worries of home ownership. With a variety of floor plans to choose from, residents enjoy community of wonderful friends, helpful staff and variety of conveniences and amenities.

Residents live independently by doing their own cooking and housekeeping, and Christian Care takes care of all maintenance and repairs, including lawn care and snow shoveling. Though garden home residents are able to make their own meals, they can also choose to order lunch and/or dinner from the kitchen. Right now with the real estate market being so hot, many folks are choosing to sell their residence and move into a garden home.

“This is a great idea,” says Whalin, who advises people to proactively move into a senior living community when they can, not when they must.

“Often people wait until something bad happens like they take a bad fall,” says Whalin. “If you wait until you’re in crisis mode, your options become much more limited.”

Those living in their garden home have first priority should they later need to transition to assisted living. The same is true of their sister community near Old Louisville that has a skilled nursing facility which may be similar to that nursing home in Rochester NY. If, at some point, they need nursing home care, they have priority status to get in there, too.

Julia Whitehouse started living in a garden home in 2002 and transitioned into the assisted living center two years ago.

“I like knowing somebody’s around if I need help,” says Whitehouse. “They’re very good people here. They do everything they can to make me comfortable and at home.”
