The Indianapolis South Radio-Control club is hosting its 27th annual benefit air show “Fly-In for Diabetes ” on Saturday, September the 15th, at their flying field just south of Greenwood Indiana. The public is invited to visit Rike field (Worthsville Rd and Griffith Rd.) to see a great Radio-Control model air show and help raise money that will go directly to the American Diabetes Association.
The day’s events feature something for the entire family. On display and in the air throughout the day will be a variety of high-performance and scale radio controlled models. Continuous flying demonstrations during the event will include aircraft ranging from 1/3 scale WWI biplanes to WWII fighters, to dazzling aerobatic helicopters and hovering ¼ scale modern day aerobatic scale models.
The air show begins at 10AM and continues until 5 PM. There is no admission charge.
Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs/blankets. Refreshments prepared and served by club members will be available at an attractive price.
To help guide visitors to the field, direction signs will be posted East of the Greenwood exit from Interstate 65 (Main St B 950N), and at the intersection of U.S. 31 and county road 750N (near 84 Lumber).
Event details and a map showing the location of the event may be obtained at this link.

Videos
Many of the planes today run on electric motors. Here is a short video of a pilot attaching a battery.
But, just like engines of old, hand cranking is needed to get them started.
Some planes use the grass runway. Others, like this fan-powered “jet” are launched by hand.
Each plan is unique. Here is one club member talking about his plane.
If you want to watch a long flight, here is a nearly 7-minute video for your enjoyment
Finally, the perfect landing of the above flight.
Attend the event on September 15 and see these planes and many more.
