Geist Half Marathon Announces Partnership With Benjamin Harrison YMCA
Will Host Second Annual Freedom 5K Race in Lawrence on July 6, 2019
Lawrence, Indiana: The Geist Half Marathon officially announced today a new partnership with the Benjamin Harrison YMCA to host the second annual Freedom 5K Race on Saturday, July 6, 2019. The race is part of the week-long FourthFest celebration in the City of Lawrence during the week of July 4th.
Mayor Steve Collier expressed his excitement in working with the Geist Half Marathon and Benjamin Harrison YMCA for next year’s race.
“We are excited about this partnership and to join in and showcase the City of Lawrence through this race,” Collier says. “This partnership marries well with our emphasis on our Fourth of July celebration.”
“I have learned two things during my tenure: Lawrence has a rich running history and the military and veterans are very important to our city,” says Benjamin Harrison YMCA Executive Director Jenny Sera. “It made a lot of sense for us to partner with the Geist Half Marathon for the race, and we are thrilled about the partnership.”
This Geist Half Marathon partnership is on the heels of the Spark!Fishers 5K race held this past June with the City of Fishers and the Fishers YMCA. For 2019, the Geist Half Marathon will be involved in four 5K races locally: Geist 5K, Spark!Fishers 5K, Freedom 5K, and the Wishbone 5K.
“This partnership is going to be great for the City of Lawrence and the Lawrence Township School Foundation,” adds Geist Half Marathon President Mike Napariu. “Since our race proceeds benefit the local school foundations, this race will give our Lawrence students and families a summer run to further our mission of promoting health and wellness in the greater Geist community.”
