Lawrence Township is pleased to announce that 5 teachers receive 2008 Teacher Creativity Fellowships Grant for $8,000 each funded by the Lilly Endowment, Inc. This is a very prestigious honor that only 128 educators in the entire state of Indiana received.
“Funded by Lilly Endowment Inc. the program enable teachers, principals, guidance counselors and school librarians from all over Indiana to take time to pursue their personal interests, explore subjects that intrigue them, and just “get away.”

Lawrence Township applauds these 5 outstanding teachers for their effort and accomplishment:
- Belzer & Craig Middle School: Betty & William Widbin — “The Sun Rises over Katmandu” – learn about the role of physical education in Katmandu’s public, private and village schools; study religious rituals; create video documentary about experiences
- Fall Creek Valley Middle School: Susan Scott — “A Wold War II Army Nurse” – telling my mother’s untold story; trace mother’s history as a nurse in France, Belgium & Germany during WWII
- Lawrence Central High School: Sandra Weichert — “Parallelograms” – research family history in Texas and Mexico; write with her daughter parallel stories about the journey, using the styles of poetry, personal narrative, internal dramatic monologues and fiction
- Lawrence North High School: Kim Zimmerman — “Our Circle of Life: Reflections of the American Indian” – Recreate family journey out West in 1962; enhance still photography and Adobe Photoshop skills
- McKenzie Career Center: Eddie Mathews — “Rwandan Adventure” – Travel to Rwanda to meet child his family has supported since 1999, make a documentary about Rwanda’s people, culture and wildlife.
