First Fishers Networking Meeting Successful

Net LiteracyWe hosted our first Fishers Business Networking meeting at the Forum Credit Union Headquarters on January 17th. Considering we accidentally planned the meeting at the same time and building as the Fishers Chamber of Commerce meeting, we were surprised to see 19 attendees turn out.

Our guest charity was Don Kent with Net Literacy. He went through a :10 minute slide presentation giving us an overview of how Net Literacy helps senior citizens, handicapped, and needy families by placing computers and providing training through youth volunteers.

The group is open to any Fishers business owners or managers. We do not grant exclusivity to any business genre, we actually encourage competitors to attend. Meetings are held monthly instead of weekly like other networking groups.

The format of our meetings is unique. First, we ask everyone to donate $5.00 to attend. Second, we start each meeting with a 5-10 minute presentation from a local charity or not for profit. After they speak, we present them with the proceeds from the $5.00 per attendee donations. Thirdly, attendees introduce themselves to someone they do not know in the room and spend five minutes interviewing that person. Finally, each two-some stands up one by one and introduces the person they just interviewed.

We firmly believe that the local not for profits and charities are the glue that holds our community together. Through the help of your donations, your time, and your networking they can prosper and help our community in many ways.

We are always looking for hosts, food & drink donors, and dessert donors to keep the cost of these events low so that we can give 100% of the donations to the guest charities. If you would like to host an upcoming meeting, please email me at Tom@atFishers.com.
