Salad ChickFast-casual restaurant Chicken Salad Chick, located in Fishers District, brings healthy food options and southern hospitality to the area. Well-established in the southeast and southwest, company leaders felt Indiana was a perfect fit for expansion.

“Chicken Salad Chick was founded in 2008 in Auburn, Alabama,” says Marianna Magee, director of marketing. “We now have 180 restaurants in 17 states. Fishers joins our most recent location at West 86th Street. We are also planning to open future Indianapolis-area locations in Glendale and Greenwood. Fishers is a popular suburb and such a great community with a large number of families. There are windows to filter the light in, and a lovely, large dining room to sit with family and friends. It’s like walking into someone’s home.”

The inside of the eatery has a country yet upscale southern vibe. Vibrant green wainscot paneling is complemented by accents of bright red and black found in the tablecloths and decor. Customers order at the counter and either sit down or take their meals to go.

“Founder Stacy Brown, now a franchise partner, was the original Chicken Salad Chick,” Magee says. “At the time she started it, she was a recently divorced single mom looking for a way to make a living. She had the idea of making and selling the perfect chicken salad. Then she realized everyone has different ideas about what should be in chicken salad. She added other flavors and named them after her friends and family.”

Salad ChickMore than 12 varieties of chicken salad are offered, ranging from savory to sweet. All are made fresh and in-house every day. The Classic Carol, with chicken, celery, mayonnaise and secret seasoning, is the base for each variation. Fancy Nancy and Cranberry Kelli are fruity and nutty, while Jalapeño Holly and Buffalo Barclay spice it up.

Other menu items include fresh side salads, gourmet soups, signature sandwiches and desserts. Macaroni and cheese, pimento cheese and egg salad are popular for carry-out. Sandwiches include turkey pesto and a chicken, bacon, lettuce and tomato. There is a catering menu as well.

“The average price for an individual order is around $8.50,” Magee says. “Our most popular is a chicken salad scoop or sandwich with the addition of another scoop, side or cup of soup. Every meal comes with a little butter-cream cookie. It’s just a great way to finish a meal and we feel everyone needs a little sweet.”

Patrons can download Chicken Salad Chick’s Craving Credits application to their phone. It is available through the App Store or Google Play. Program participants earn one point for every dollar spent. Rewards include complimentary food items, special discounts and gear.

“We heard a lot about Hoosier hospitality,” Magee says. “It fits right in with southern hospitality.”
