It’s an exciting time for Westfield. With so much new development and growth as downtown Westfield has become a vibrant area filled with new local establishments, Jake Weber and his wife, Kenia Azaeda, felt it was the perfect time to open their restaurant, Gringtinos.
Gringtinos opened to the public on August 11, and Weber says the experience so far has been great, and that he could not be happier with how the community has reacted.
Gringtinos is one of Westfield’s newest restaurants. Weber says the name is a mashup of the couple, where he’s a “gringo” and she is “Latino”. Azaeda is from Bolivia, studied at a prestigious culinary school and was into fine dining. Weber always worked in corporate America and preferred a more casual pub setting. So Gringtinos was the compromise, serving upscale food in a casual environment. Inside, there is a cozy, modern industrial aesthetic with exposed bricks, dark paint accents and brass light fixtures. During warmer months there is a large retractable window, and outdoor tables and chairs. On occasion, Gringtinos has live musical performers.
The menu is a mix of pub food of North America and South America. Azaeda is also the main chef, and has created a menu of Latin cuisine and American classics.
The South American portion of the menu features chicken, barbacoa and cheese empanadas, filet mignon, chicken, beef, shrimp and barbacoa tacos, and much more. American pub classics on the menu include soft pretzels, chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, salads, burgers and pasta dishes.
Gringtinos is also a kid-friendly restaurant offering kids’ options of mac and cheese, quesadillas, spaghetti, grilled cheese, a kids burger, and hand-breaded chicken fingers.
According to Weber, they plan to evolve their menu every couple of months. Most recently they added Detroit-style pizza to the menu to play homage to Weber’s hometown. They plan on adding more menu items at the beginning of next year.
They also serve brunch on the weekends with a menu that features breakfast items like waffles, French toast, crepes, omelets, eggs Benedict, and breakfast burritos, and lunch items such as a club sandwich, BLT and chicken salad croissant.
Gringtino’s is located at 110 South Union Street in Westfield.
