The Real Food Shoppe now has a new home. Located in a much larger space, just a few blocks from the former location across from the old fire station, youll find more products, but the same service and quality.
Well have the same products, but well also have more of what youve been asking for, says shop owner Tabatha Starr. She said they plan to double their inventory, add new groceries and supplement lines, personal accessories, home good items and even some locally made jewelry. Some new brands you can expect to see are Terry Naturally, Nordic Naturals and Gaia Herbs. The shop now also has a bulk herb and spice section.
Two ingredients you will still never find in any of the products sold in The Real Food Shoppe are high fructose corn syrup or food dyes. However, being selective about ingredients doesnt mean Starr isnt sympathetic to busy parents.
Sometimes its not about being perfect with your food choices, she says. Its about finding healthier and better options for things you love, and thats okay. I always tell customers, do the best you can with what you have, when you have it.
We try to carry a wide variety of local products that fit our standards of quality ingredients as well as companies that are passionate about the integrity of our food system. I really like helping make people better through better foods and supplements.
One supplement Starr advocates on behalf of her customers is CBD oil. In January, Starr testified at the Indiana Statehouse.
I feel strongly about this product, and we are still fighting for it every day, she says.
Shes been fighting alongside the Indiana Hemp Industries Association (INHIA) to break down the misconceptions about hemp.
Hemp is so much more than CBD oil, Starr says. Hemp helps farmers and the environment. It also has many uses such as food, fuel and fiber.
Right now, Starr says hemp is oversold and sold without realistic expectations.
We hear incredible, life-changing stories every day regarding CBD oil, Starr says. My favorite ones are the people who could just simply get out and garden for the first time in years. People shouldnt expect a miracle cure.
With cold and flu season right around the corner, Starr says its a good time to prepare or restock your medicine cabinet. We have in multiple varieties of elderberry syrup, including her familys favorite from Abington Meadows.
The town of Plainfield is redeveloping their former location.
It was a happy coincidence, Starr says. We were considering bigger spaces to expand and the town said they would like to redevelop this area. Small businesses are an important part of the community and were excited to be part of it.
Since the store is growing, Starr says she plans to add to the staff to help meet demand.
The new store is located at 211 W. Main Street in Plainfield. Their hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m. 6 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. 4 p.m. and closed Sunday and Monday.
