On January 10, the Lawrence Township Administrative Council visited Harrison Hill School of Inquiry to see in action The Project Approach by Sylvia Chard and Lillian Katz. The Council members had the opportunity to interact with students who were given the chance to explain their class project and to make connections on how it was important to them as an individual. Dorothea Irwin, Mary Evelyn Castle Elementary principal commented on a 4th grade student’s presentation on the affects of smoking. “I can’t tell you how powerful the experience was on many levels. The fact that this child was learning about the dangers of smoking and how to create a healthy environment, how she had identified with the topic and researched and followed through with a report that directly connected to her own life, but also ! how seriously she took her work. She was confident and knowledgeable, she was honest and purposeful. She was anxious to know more and continue her research. She was a fourth grader and she had the enthusiasm of a scholar, scientist, researcher.” The accompanying photo shows Superintendent Dr. Mike Cooper examining documentation on a survey about the HHSI cafeteria. For more information concerning The Project Approach, please contact principal Sharon Smith, assistant principal Erin Sughre, or Natalie Stewart and Erika Radford, Project coaches, at 964-4300.
