DR. MATT KEGLEY:
A PASSIONATE LEADER IN EDUCATION

The expression, “no two days are ever the same,” aptly describes what it is like to work in the ranks of public education. “You have to remain nimble,” says Dr. Matt Kegley, who has worked in Hamilton Southeastern Schools since 2006.

In that time, Kegley has experienced redistricting, new school construction and renovations, referendum campaigns, student population growth, curriculum updates and personnel changes, to name a few. But his passion for ensuring all students in HSE Schools receive a world-class education has always remained consistent.DR. MATT KEGLEY

Kegley has found that working in administration, from being an assistant principal to a building principal, then executive director of secondary education, assistant superintendent of teaching and learning, and now serving as the interim superintendent, has given him the opportunity to effect change on a greater scale.

“I am dedicated to our commitment of providing students with innovative learning experiences, spanning all grade levels,” expressed Kegley, as he contemplated the transformative evolution of education over the years. “In the past, learning was confined to the classroom and textbooks. However, today, we have an array of rapid information access methods, enabling students to engage in collaborative learning, apply essential fundamentals, and reach key educational milestones through real-world, hands-on experiences.”

As Kegley assumes the role of interim superintendent for HSE, overseeing more than 21,000 students and 2,500 dedicated employees, he expresses gratitude for the opportunity. “In the short time that I have been in the role as interim superintendent, I have enjoyed collaborating with individuals, both in and beyond our school community,” adds Kegley.

Regardless of who becomes the next leader of Hamilton Southeastern, Kegley is confident in the future success of the district.

“As we embark on the journey of mapping new educational pathways for K-12 as part of our Portrait of a Graduate initiative,” says Kegley, “I believe our students, teachers, staff and schools will be able to be more intentional in shaping the experiences we offer.”

The primary objective for the district will forever remain the preparation of every student for life beyond HSE. But for Kegley, it is about not just doing it, but doing it exceptionally well; empowering students to pursue their chosen paths with confidence.
