The Center Grove varsity choirs swept the awards at the Midwest Showcase at Huntington North High School on Saturday, February 22. CG Singers travelled to their first competition of the season and earned Grand Champion honors in the Concert Choir Division. Sound System won Overall Grand Champion in the Mixed Division and The Debtones won Overall Grand Champion in the Women’s Division.
Center Grove Choral Music students’ dedication and work ethic were rewarded in virtually every category. Sound System collected caption awards for best choreography, vocal sound and technical crew in a field of nine. Senior Joel Flynn was named as outstanding performer of the group. The Debtones also collected caption awards for best choreography, vocal sound and technical crew in a field of five. Junior Allison Nevill was named outstanding performer.
Joel Flynn was recognized at the Best Male soloist in the solo completion which included soloists from around the state. He wowed the auditorium with dramatic rendition of Where I Want to Be.
The Center Grove choirs are directed by Jennifer Dice and Jared Norman, choreographed by Andy Haines, assisted by Sheila Leachman and accompanied by Greg Sanders. The next home show will be The Showcase of Champions on Tuesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. in Center Grove High School Auditorium.
