Center Grove High School Announces New Principal

Jeffry Henderson takes over as CGHS Principal beginning July 1.

GREENWOOD, IN (June 15, 2017) – Jeffry Henderson will become the new principal of Center Grove High School beginning July 1, 2017. Henderson is an experienced educator and instructional leader with nearly 30 years in education, including 15 years as a high school principal. Henderson’s hiring is pending approval by the Center Grove Board of School Trustees at its June 15, 2017 meeting.

“We are excited to bring Jeff Henderson to Center Grove,” says Dr. Rich Arkanoff, superintendent. “He has a wealth of experience collaboratively leading a high achieving high school. His ability to immerse himself in the community and his student-centered focus stood out throughout all phases of the hiring process. I am confident that he will be a consistent, fair and collegial leader at Center Grove High School.”

“I am extremely honored to be given the opportunity to serve as the principal of Center Grove High School,” Henderson says. “I am excited to get started and look forward to embracing and becoming a part of the rich history and traditions that have made Center Grove High School such a great place to learn and work. My wife, children and I are looking forward to relocating to the area as soon as possible. Dr. Arkanoff, members of his advisory council, and all of the members of the CGHS community who participated in the interviews have made me feel very welcome and at home throughout the process. I would like to thank the members of the School Board for entrusting me with this responsibility to serve the students and families of Center Grove.”

“We are very pleased that Jeff Henderson will become the next principal of Center Grove High School,” adds Jack Russell, Board president. “He brings not only the experience necessary to succeed but also the collaborative mindset and desire to become a part of our community.”

Henderson is currently the principal of Bloomington North High School in Bloomington, IN, where he has served since 2005. He started his career as a technology teacher in Columbus, IN before moving into administration as an assistant principal. He worked in Crown Point as a middle school assistant principal and as an assistant principal at Crawfordsville High School before being named principal. Henderson was also named the Indiana Association of School Principals Principal of the Year for District 9 in 2017.

Henderson received his bachelor’s degree in Technology Education and master’s degree in Educational Administration from Indiana State University. He received his Ed.S. degree from Ball State University and anticipates completion of an Ed.D. degree later this year. He and his wife, Lori, have two daughters.

The current principal, Dr. Doug Bird, announced plans to leave the job when his contract ends on June 30. Dr. Bird has served as principal for four years. Center Grove elicited feedback from more than 60 high school administrators and staff members, parents, students and community members as part of the hiring process.
