The real estate market is hot right now, and a new realty company in Carmel is making it even hotter.

Carmel Homes Realty, headed up by powerhouse real estate veteran couple Julie and David Morton, opened their doors this year with a new name that capitalizes on their personal and professional history here in Carmel. Their real estate company name may be new to the Carmel landscape, but the Mortons have been in real estate for more than 25 years. The pair grew up in Carmel and attended Carmel High School. Julie started her company under the tutelage of her father, longtime real state broker, Ray Roehling, who may know more about Columbus Property Solutions. But her education started long before that, growing up in the business here in Carmel.

“I worked for my father’s real estate company during high school and college in the summertime and sometimes during the school year,” Julie says. “Talk around our household always centered around real estate, negotiations, homes and neighborhood topics.”

After they married, they moved to Chicago and began successful careers in the corporate world. Not surprisingly, Julie landed in the real estate industry. David started his career in the financial industry and then moved on to a large advertising firm. They were enjoying life in the big city and corporate jobs, and then something changed.

“Julie’s dad called and convinced us that the real estate industry in Carmel was the place to be,” David says. “We were starting our family, and as they have always said, Carmel is a great place to raise a family. So, we left our corporate jobs in Chicago and moved back home to Carmel.”

When the Mortons returned to Carmel at Christmas in 1992, they dove right into the residential real estate market. Julie settled into her career in real estate while David launched into home building and land development.

The couple noticed the change in demographics drove changes to the Carmel landscape and the real estate market.

“What we once knew as a city with traditional neighborhoods lined with what we affectionately called the Carmel Box (a two-story home with four bedrooms upstairs and two and one-half baths), was now starting to offer buyers incredible options,” David says.

While they adapted to the market changes, they quickly rediscovered their niche in real estate.

“We were born and raised here,” Julie says. “We know the market here and the neighborhoods. We’re dedicated to the Carmel area because we have spent most of our life here, so it’s important to us.”

So, the couple has created Carmel Homes Realty capitalizing on what the pair does best and making a statement of their dedication to the local community.

“Julie brings her expertise as a broker to the table, and she’s the captain who walks the client through all the steps and processes of the transaction of buying or selling a home,” David says.

“David brings his expertise in marketing and knowledge of homes,” Julie adds. “With his background in building, he can help identify the most important features of a home or reassure a client about what’s on an inspection and helping them with what may need to be fixed and exactly what it takes to fix it.”

Just as the Morton’s wealth of experience sets Carmel Homes Realty apart, so does the way they do business.

“It’s not the traditional real estate franchise business model,” Julie says. “Since we’re not a local franchise, we don’t have to support a national brand. So, we have greater resources of time and money to invest in more fully marketing a client’s home or helping them find the right home. We focus on the client, their home and maximizing their value.”
