Punch Out Parkinson’s With Rock Steady Boxing
Rock Steady Boxing is proud to begin the new year by shining a spotlight on one of the most vital and inspiring groups within its community — seniors living with Parkinson’s disease. Throughout January, the organization is launching a month-long initiative to honor the strength, resilience, and perseverance of older adults who continue to show that age is not a limitation when it comes to fighting back against Parkinson’s.
Rock Steady Boxing’s nationally recognized, non-contact boxing program has long been a source of hope, empowerment, and physical transformation for seniors facing the daily challenges of Parkinson’s disease. January’s celebration will highlight personal stories from participants, share progress milestones, and uplift the voices of those who demonstrate that determination and community can make all the difference.
“Seniors are at the heart of what we do,” says Andrea Mallory, Director of Development. “Every day, we witness their courage in the gym—the way they push themselves, support one another, and refuse to let Parkinson’s define their lives. Their determination motivates all of us to keep fighting back and to ensure that Rock Steady Boxing continues offering the tools, encouragement, and community our boxers need.”
Throughout January, Rock Steady Boxing will feature special programming at its Indianapolis headquarters and affiliate locations nationwide. Activities include open gym days for seniors and caregivers, educational sessions about Parkinson’s and exercise-based therapies, and storytelling campaigns across social media to raise awareness of the transformative power of movement.
Coaches will spotlight senior boxers during classes, celebrating their achievements, whether big or small.
Seniors participating in Rock Steady Boxing frequently report improved balance, enhanced mobility, stronger coordination, and increased confidence. Beyond the physical benefits, many emphasize the importance of connection—finding a supportive community where they feel seen, understood, and empowered. These stories will be elevated throughout January as a reminder of the program’s mission and impact.
Rock Steady Boxing is also encouraging families, friends, and caregivers to join the January celebration by attending classes, sharing stories, and recognizing the daily efforts of seniors living with Parkinson’s. The organization hopes this month-long focus will inspire more individuals to explore exercise-based therapy and seek the life-changing support found in Rock Steady Boxing gyms.
