Fourth-Generation Company Provides Services Through Multiple Divisions

Huston Electric was founded in 1939 and is a fourth-generation, family-owned company. Huston has three locations in Kokomo, Lafayette, and Westfield, with several specialized divisions including electric, technology, generators and compressors, signs, and solar.
We opened our first location in Kokomo back in 1939, says Corky Huston, owner of Huston Electric and Signs. Then in the 60s we opened our Lafayette location. We just opened our Westfield location in 2015. Each location was opened to suit our customers needs in those areas better.
Each division provides turnkey solutions catered to each customers needs. The electric division is Hustons primary breadwinner. It has a contracting department and a service department. The business then spun off into different specialized divisions to better serve customers.
Our technology division works a lot with interactive smart boards, phone systems, communication systems, door access, and system design and integration, says Kelli Huston, director of marketing.
Huston Solar focuses on providing alternative energy solutions through solar installations and maintenance just like West Bay Energy services. The solar division selects the best components, warranties, and industry-leading performance models to ensure each customers system will produce optimally.
We started off with a lot of success in the residential market, Kelli says. This year were moving forward into more of the commercial side of solar.
Huston Signs provides sign design and installation, sign repair, consultant work, awning services, lighting, and creative solutions. The division also includes an in-house graphic design department that can assist customers in logo creation and overall branding efforts.
The Huston family saw the potential for the Westfield market and felt it was the next logical choice in their expansion efforts.
One reason we opened this office was the growth of the area, Corky says. We love to support our local communities. We participate in many philanthropic sponsorships and raise money for local charities through our annual charity golf outing. Were all about giving back to the communities who have supported our family-owned company for more than 80 years.
Currently, 7 family members work for Huston. When they first opened the Westfield location, they employed 10 to 12 people. That number has grown to 22.
As weve grown our market share in Westfield, weve had to hire additional staff, Corky says. We currently have about 80 electricians working in the area. As projects come in, we hire through the local union hall. We prioritize high-quality work and safety.
Huston Electric has received many awards throughout its tenure. Kelli says the staff members feel fortunate to receive such high praise from the local community.
