Ever since Clay Winters was young, heating, ventilation and air conditioning service has been a part of his life through Control Tech.

“I got into the business when I was 14 years old – I was always riding around with my dad in a truck,” says Winters, whose father Alan founded Control Tech Heating and Air Conditioning in 1983. “Basically, both of my parents were in the business, so it was one of those things where that was what we ate, slept and breathed.”

Located in Zionsville, Control Tech still prides itself on being a family-owned operation to this day, offering customers a high level of service on a regular basis. Serving Indianapolis and its surrounding communities, the company primarily sticks to residential heating and cooling, while occasionally venturing into commercial service. Originally a two-man operation, Control Tech now has more than 50 employees which may include an ac repair specialist, with 40 trucks currently out on the road.

According to Winters, quality, personable service has always been at the core of Control Tech. By checking out such companies, you can get more information of related services which can optimize the comfortability of your home.

“The whole reason my dad went into business for himself was because he was working for another company, and it was all about volume and numbers,” Winters says. “They were all about finding something wrong on every job, and he didn’t agree with that. Essentially, that’s why he got into business for himself.”

Both graduates of Zionsville Community High School, Winters and his father have always chosen to keep the business in Zionsville, simply because it feels like home.

“The main reason we’ve stayed is just because of the community and the people,” Winters says. “It’s a smaller community and isn’t as fast paced. It’s low key, and a good place to raise a family.”

When it comes to the services the company offers, Winters says the Control Tech team members know what they’re good at. Some simple furnace repairs can be done by homeowners, but the technical fixes should be left to highly-trained sandy furnace repair sandy technicians.

“If you’re building a home in one of these big neighborhoods that are going up all over Zionsville, we’re probably not going to be the guys installing that equipment, because there are companies who are set up for that, but we basically are the second guy in,” he says. “If you’re moving to a home, it was probably installed by somebody else. But whenever it’s time for that equipment to be replaced, that’s when we come in.”

With roots firmly planted in Zionsville, Winters aims to make his community proud with the work Control Tech does on a daily basis.

“We’re in the community, and I have three kids,” Winters says. “I’m going to see these people out in public, so I better do my job. It’s not like we live on the southside and work up here in Zionsville. I’m out and about, and we’re in the community all the time. That’s why it’s important to us. We want people to feel like they’ve got a company that actually cares about them. You’re not just a customer number.”
