Art tells a story, and it can be the perfect way to express who you are, both to yourself and those who visit your home.
“I think people show their personality through art in their homes by finding an artist or artwork that resonates with them,” says Lindsey Myers, owner of Acrylics by Lindsey. “Art is beautiful and can really transform a space, but sometimes it’s more about how a piece of art makes you feel when you see it.”
Myers is local to Sharpsville, and does abstract paintings and atmospheric landscape paintings. She uses acrylic paint with a lot of movement, and neutral color palettes. While she is accepting commission requests, she also has artwork available for purchase, from 48”x60” pieces all the way down to small, 11”x14” pieces.
“Not all homes are made for huge impact pieces,” she says. “You can still make a statement with a smaller piece of art, and there is not a right or wrong place to put your art. Some people might spend a lot of time in the living room or kitchen and prefer their art there, while others might enjoy a long bath and want a spa-like feeling in their bathroom with a beautiful custom piece.”
Myers has made numerous custom pieces for art collectors, and loves working one-on-one with clients to give them the exact look and feel they want in the selected space. Myers consults with collectors and other clients by coming to their space or inviting them into her studio for a meeting.
“Sometimes, out of convenience, clients can send me photos of their space and preferred colors,” she says. “For one of my art collectors with a wonderful vacation home near a lake, I recreated the landscape for her through a photo she had.”
That piece turned out to be a 48”x60” painting that the client now has in her dining room.
“It makes me so happy that I can create and do what I love, and also have a positive effect on homes and spaces,” she says.
She says the best way to individualize or create an original space in your home through art is by supporting local and buying custom pieces. Myers enjoys creating pieces that are not available anywhere else, and are set apart from commercial art.
“I love creating works that are made from the heart,” she says. “Each piece is unique and special in its own way. I often hear from my art collectors that their favorite thing is having a piece that is original, and hearing, ‘No one has one piece of art like mine.’ I love hearing that.”
Myers doesn’t want anyone to be intimidated with the custom-art process, or scared away from purchasing their first piece because they aren’t sure where to start.
“I have worked with so many first-time art collectors, and love helping and walking them through the process,” she says. “I typically tell collectors to start with a piece that makes you happy and makes you feel something when you see it. I have had clients build an entire room and design off of one of my paintings, which is just so neat and rewarding. I do my best to make the process as easy as possible.”
With an average artwork turnaround time of five weeks, Myers has some of her work displayed at High Frequency Arts in Fishers, and notes that her studio is open for clients to come see art in person by appointment.
“I’ve always loved art,” she says. “I think it is so important to have original art out in the community and in your home. It has such a way of making people feel something, and creativity is contagious. Art has such an impact on this earth for the better. I cannot even describe the gratitude I have for this supportive community and for all of my art collectors and followers. Art has the ability to heal and console.”
