Noblesville High School student, Marjorie “Maggie” Lambert, daughter of Noblesville School Board member Stephanie Lambert and Dr. Nathan Lambert, MD, is utilizing her time until graduation to the fullest. Not only is she student body president, but she is also a student athletic trainer, vice president of DECA and serves on the Mayor’s Youth Council while taking high level classes such as AP biology. During her high school years, Lambert learned from her experiences and continues moving forward.
As student body president, Lambert oversees scheduled meetings, any school happenings that involve all grades such as homecoming, blood drive, mini-Olympics or pep rallies as well the budgets for the events. Each grade has its own class president and senators. Lambert ran for sophomore class president and lost. Undeterred, she ran and won a senator position her junior year. With experience in student government gained, she was elected as student body president for her senior year.
“I have a lot of school spirit but one of my biggest surprises is how willing and enthusiastic the freshman class is. The senators, vice president and president are eager and all very kind. They never complain and are a great bunch of kids,” says Lambert.
This year, Lambert is a cadet teacher at Noble Crossing Elementary School but last year she participated in the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification program. To achieve certification, she and other students interned at Maple Park Village assisted living facility and had to pass a state board exam. This training has been valuable in her role as a student athletic trainer.
“I assist athletic trainer Gerald Mickler before and after every practice and game for varsity football, boys’ basketball and baseball. My duties are players’ rehab, injury prevention, and hydration. I have a big heart for student athletes. It is a challenge to balance sports, other activities and keep up grades,” says Lambert.
“I was in travel soccer and played for years. I played soccer freshman year, but I got bad injury in weightlifting class. I took it as a sign to pursue other things. I still love sports; I have a real competitive side, but I tell people there are other avenues to be involved in sports like being a student athletic trainer,” says Lambert.
Lambert is looking forward to other events that will happen before the end of her senior year. As vice president of the school’ chapter of DECA, a business education organization that hosts competitions at the local and state level, she will organize meetings, fundraisers, and practice competitions. In addition, she is on the wellness focus group of the Mayor’s Youth Council and is an avid supporter of teen mental health.
“I’ve been trying to decide between being a teacher or going into the medical field. I think ultimately I want to be a physician’s assistant. My dad is a cardiologist and his physician’s assistant, Julie Vanderford, has been a mentor, allowing me to shadow her,” says Lambert.
“I am applying to seven colleges, and I think I’ve got a good mix of safety, target and reach schools. My safety schools are Ball State University, Butler University and Indiana University. Their acceptance rate is high for my qualifications and GPA. My target school, what I’m hoping for, is Purdue University where I’d like to study bio medical health services. My reach schools are New York University and Northwestern University,” says Lambert.
Meanwhile, Lambert plans to enjoy the reminder of her senior year. She is glad for the opportunity to serve her school in a leadership role. Above all else, she’s proud to be a Miller!
