Noblesville Business Creates Master-Crafted Stone & Glass Products

Stonesmiths Inc. may be known for their excellent custom stonework, but it’s a familial core that lies at the heart of Jason Lawson’s Noblesville-based company.

“We’re not family, but we are like a family,” says Thomas Kinney, a templator at Stonesmiths. “We all kind of know everything that’s going on with each other.”

Founded in 2006 by Lawson, the humble business has serviced homeowners and businesses all across Indianapolis and beyond over the years. Located at 12244 IN-32, Stonesmiths are members in good standing in the Marble Institute of America. They also have an A rating with the Better Business Bureau and have been honored with the Super Service Award from Angie’s List.

A native of Noblesville and graduate of Noblesville High School, Lawson studied business and finance at Butler University. He went on to work in several fields before discovering his passion for stone. After working as an installer for another granite fabricator, Lawson eventually decided he wanted to start his own business specializing in custom stone service.

“I was working for someone else and just realized that I could do it better and take care of the customers better,” Lawson says. “So I got a couple builders to commit to working with me and started the company.”

This customer care is one of many reasons why Stonesmiths has found so much success in the Indianapolis area. In fact, almost all of their new business comes via word-of-mouth referral. Of course, there are several other factors that also make Stonesmiths stand out. It all starts with the precise measurement with their laser templator. They also offer a broad selection of granite, marble and glass products. Pair all of this with a friendly, expert staff, and Stonesmiths is a logical choice for stone renovations.

“[We take pride in] customer service, quality, honesty and integrity,” Lawson says. “Those would be the biggest things.”

When a customer approaches Stonesmiths, they are met with experts who work to make their custom stone surface the best it can possibly be. Typically, there are a number of steps that unfold in order to get the job done. At the beginning, Stonesmiths develops their fabrication process with the intent of getting customers involved from the get-go. When it comes to customization, there are really no limits to what Stonesmiths can make happen.

“There’s nothing we won’t tackle,” Kinney says.

After measurements are made and design is discussed, clients choose the granite, marble or quartz slab that will be used for their project. Stonesmiths even allows customers to place a plastic template on the stone so that its cut just the way they want. Following installation, Stonesmiths still makes sure to take care of the customer, standing behind their work with warranties and a pledge to address any problems that arise later on.

Over the years, Stonesmiths has amassed a plethora of positive reviews raving about their work. At the end of the day, though, they ultimately take pride in not only being a group of hardworking craftsman, but also a family.
