Local Store Is a One-Stop-Shop For Your Home Interior

In 1952, when Bill Graybeal started The Gray Mill, his goal was to build custom furniture and upholstery items for his clients. By the end of the decade, the business was evolving.
He really loved building furniture, but he saw a really great opportunity for retail, explains granddaughter and third-generation co-owner, Mollie Graybeal. When he got his first storefront, he got the furniture and accessories, and he just expanded it from there.
Ever since then, The Graybeal family has concentrated on providing its customers interior decorating needs with quality furnishings. We have been built from our beginning as a one-stop-shop for your home interior, explains Graybeal.
In the last 68 years, this family has slowly expanded the business, both in repertoire and in space, each generation adding value to the business. Today, The Gray Mill boasts 16,000 sq. ft. of the highest quality furniture for all areas of the house.
Between my Dad [Mike], my Uncle Bill, and myself, we have more than 100 years of experience in the industry, Graybeal adds.
The Gray Mill has always been known to have the highest quality.
The one thing that we hear continuously is, I still have furniture that I got from you 40 years ago. Or That bedroom suite I bought lasted forever! I didnt need to go anywhere else because you guys sold me such nice stuff, Graybeal says. Furniture isnt something thats supposed to be disposable.
Almost everything they offer is made in the USA and comes with a warrantee.
We are about giving back value and having a wide range of budget prices, Graybeal says.
Offering all domestic products is vital to Graybeal.
When you buy American in your furniture, you get better, period. It goes all the way down to the nuts, the bolts, and the washers. Being American makes the biggest difference for furniture, she says.
As an added bonus, much of the inventory is made right here in the Hoosier state.
There are several things that set The Gray Mill apart from its competitors, like The Gray Mill Experience, something that returning customers know they can trust and appreciate.
If youve ever gone shopping for furniture before and you felt very uncomfortable, youre not alone, Graybeal says. That happens a lot. Ive heard time and time again that most consumers arent going into furniture stores and getting a lot of educated help. At The Gray Mill, your experience is going to be much different. Our salesmanship is truly catered to each specific customers home situation and needs.
From the time that a customer walks through the door, a sales associate will meet them and ask them questions about their lifestyles, needs, preferred styles and budget range. There is even an interior design service available for those who want it. After that, the customer is taken to the showroom and will be shown pieces that fit their specifications.
Its truly a customer service-oriented experience, Graybeal adds. We dont truly sell furniture. We assist in selecting furniture. We work very hard to treat people like they are family members.
At The Gray Mill, a customer can find more than the tables, bedroom sets, chairs and sofas. They also have linens, décor, accessories, mattresses and more.
We offer the full window treatment selection, all made in America, with professional installation, Graybeal says.
We also offer professional installation of all of our floor coverings as well.
They even design custom bathrooms, showers and backsplashes.
Graybeal obviously loves her job. She enjoys working with the customers, running the interior decorating services and more. But to ask her, the best part of the job is working around the furniture day in and day out.
I love furniture, she says. Every day, I get to shop and rearrange furniture. I get to shop for customers and its all a new challenge. Every vignette Im going to arrange or buy for is a new challenge, just like every home I get to redesign.
