“The reason for the season.”

I see this posted in many stores and it always makes me think of slowing down and examining my motives for why I have to hustle and bustle for the holidays.

Our open house at New Kitchen Store is coming up on November 25 and we are starting to set the food lists. All of the hard work that goes into preparing this event makes me so appreciative of the friendships we have established over our 20-year period. It’s a time for us to say “Merry Christmas” and give back to everyone that comes in on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.Open House at New Kitchen Store

We don’t rush to put Christmas-themed items out until after Thanksgiving, so we can remember our blessings throughout the year, and when Black Friday happens at lots of stores, we close down and get the Christmas decorations out. I know it costs us sales for people who want to shop early, but I just can’t help but think Thanksgiving takes a back seat when you do that. After all, when I was a kid we didn’t put the tree up in the house until a week before Christmas. If I remember correctly, my grandma didn’t put it up until the day before.

When planning the open house, we prepare as if you were coming to our house for dinner – tools for ease in preparation, a nice table setting, and great appetizers and foods, all of which leads to a relaxed feel around the table with lots of smiling faces. We pick out all the favorites you have told us over the years and experiment with new ones as well. We have been told many times that the food you bring to your party might have to be made again and again, as it turns into the favorites at your house.

Speaking as a business owner, it’s always hard to know how to give back to the community and convey the appreciation we feel. Shopping locally has made everyone aware of how much small businesses care. Customer service is at the top of the list of things we provide. We can tell you how to use that new gadget and make your foods look really special. So please don’t forget to share this with your neighbors and friends. It takes each one of us to make a business work.

We are especially thankful for The Lakes Magazine for starting this publication, to make the communities aware of the small businesses that are trying to achieve a standard of excellence.Open House at New Kitchen Store

We are thankful for the employees who share these same goals and make it possible to run an ethical business. They uphold the standards of excellence that we are committed to, and work tirelessly to get them accomplished. When we have a big event like this, our friends come in and help with the cooking and serving. What a blessing to see how the community helps out. Thank you!

We have been blessed with a new location at 1100 Roosevelt Road in Walkerton. We will actually be inside the building instead of outside in the tent. It is a time we can share and give back. We will be sampling a variety of foods, and having prize drawings as well as a customer appreciation discount.

Most importantly, just getting to say hi to our friends, neighbors and our community is so important to us. We hope you visit all of your shopping hangouts this season. Don’t forget to give us suggestions that will allow us to move forward with ways to offer a helping hand that will reach the needs of everyone around us. Merry Christmas!
