If you’re craving some good ice cream these days, you’ll be happy to see the first, new ice cream shop open at the Geist Marina this fall, Crave Ice Cream Social.
The Grollneks were dining at Puccini’s one night when Scott’s mom said, “We need some ice cream after dinner. I wish there was an ice cream shop around here.” That comment got the ball rolling.
“That’s what made us think,” says Scott. “We do need an ice cream place around here!” The Grollneks looked around for space in the area but couldn’t find exactly what they were looking for. Then, Geist Fitness announced they were downsizing, leaving a 1200 sq. ft. spot wide open next to Eddy’s Bar and Grill, complete with a separate outdoor patio.
“That was it,” says Scott. “We found our spot!”
Scott says it works out great because they don’t compete with their neighboring restaurants but add more offerings to the area.
“We offer dessert after a nice meal or just a cool treat on its own,” says Scott. They also plan to serve pastries, croissants and locally roasted coffee.
They are looking forward to the opening of the new multiuse trail from 79th and Fall Creek to the Geist Marina area.
“That means more traffic looking for some good ice cream!” says Scott.
Amanda says they chose a modern-looking industrial, kind of restoration hardware theme for the décor with gray walls and wood tabletops. They signed a lease in May and hope to be in full operation for the holiday season.
The Gollnecks both work full time elsewhere. Amanda, who is from Anderson, is a full-time brand manager at Firestone. Scott is from Southern California and owns Northside Window and Gutter Cleaning. They have an 18-year-old daughter, who you will most likely see behind the counter at Crave, and they have a new puppy at home!
“It’s a busy time,” says Amanda. “But we’ve been planning this for a while, so we are ready!”
Crave is hand dipped, premium, homemade ice cream from Anderson.
“We just want to be people’s first choice for ice cream in our community! We offer locally made premium products with a comfortable and friendly atmosphere.”

They will do so well! That is a perfect addition to the marina. I’m sure there will be a line out the door of boaters, runners, bikers etc all summer! I know my kids and i will be there too.
