New Mexican Restaurant Opens In Geist

A new Mexican restaurant is now open in the Geist area at the site of the former Wooden Bear Brewing spot. It is called El Lago, which means “the lake.” Owner Alfredo Melendez thought it was an appropriate name for the new Mexican spot near Geist Reservoir.
“Its been going great,” Melendez says. “We have been busy just about every night and we really like it here.”
Even though the area doesn’t have a direct view of the water, El Lago’s patio has a well-shaded area with big red umbrellas and comfortable outdoor seating.
EL Lago offers a variety of margaritas, including its signature homemade El Lago margarita with homemade tequila blanco, agave nectar, orange curacao and its secret recipe mix, all served on the rocks.
There’s also its “Sangriarita” which is a blend of house margarita and sangria
and the “Margarita Skinny,” which is silver tequila with agave nectar, fresh-squeezed lime, and soda water, served on the rocks and in a variety of sizes.
In addition to its signature margaritas, the restaurant also offers its signature tableside guacamole, which is a blend of freshly sliced avocados, cilantro, jalapenos, and house spices.
El Lago has several types of salads, including the “El Lago salad,” which is topped with steak, chicken, and shrimp. There’s also “create your own combo” meals where guests can mix and match enchiladas, tamales, burritos and tacos to make your own dish.
Desserts are just as authentic at El Lago, with selections including “Flan”, a Mexican dessert made fresh in their kitchen daily and “Sopapillas,” which is a classic dessert of fried flour tortillas drizzled with honey, butter and cinnamon.
For specialty drinks, they serve “horchata” – a Mexican drink made with rice and is flavored with sugar and cinnamon.
EL Lago is open Monday- Thursday 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, it’s until 10:30 p.m., while on Sunday it’s open from 11-9 p.m. You can view the menu or find out more by visiting them at ellagomexicancuisine.com or give them a call at 317-288-9760. El Lago is located at 10150 Brooks School Rd.
