Looking for a fun social activity to do with some friends? Circle City Athletics (CCA) has you covered. With 22 sports and activity options listed on their website for leagues, there is a lot to choose from.
CCA is an intramural sports league for adults ages 21-50. There are over 100 flag football teams, more than 150 sand volleyball teams and countless other options, whether you are athletic or not. With additional activities like bocce ball, trampoline dodgeball, rock climbing and euchre, everyone can find something they like or are willing to give a try.
“Spring is definitely our busiest season,” says CCA Events and Marketing Manager Laura von Merveldt. “Virtually anything you can play outdoors right now is running.”
The CCA utilizes fields and locations around the city, including Pinheads in Fishers for bowling. Soccer games are played at Park Tudor and Carroll Stadium at IUPUI where the Indy Eleven play.
“Flag football is definitely one of our most popular sports,” says von Merveldt. “All teams are co-ed, and most games take place at Broad Ripple Park or Park Tudor School.”
You need not have a team to sign up. This season, 1,500 free agents were placed. “It’s a great way to meet new new people and create new friendships,” says Fidelity Investment manager Kevin Rusie, who recently moved to the area. “The social benefits are great.”
After every flag football game, each team is given a coupon for a free pitcher of beer by sponsor Average Joe’s.
“MillerCoors is our main sponsor,” shares von Merveldt. “Rob Sabatini, owner of Average Joe’s, sponsors our flag football and kickball teams.”
“My friends encouraged me to sign up in a couple leagues,” says Rusie. “It is great fun and a great way to meet people. I highly recommend anyone new to the area to sign up!”
“This rudely reminds us how out of shape we are,” says participant and free agent Ryan.
Rob Ollikainen works for the Indy Eleven soccer team in ticket operations. “It’s fun,” he says. “We have a blast.”
In addition to the sports, CCA organizes social events throughout the year, such as the Santa Stumble Pub Crawl, the St. Practice Day Pub Crawl and their New Year’s Eve party. “This year, we had 1,000 people attend our New Year’s Eve party at the Indiana Roof Ballroom,” states von Merveldt.
