Business Spotlight: Indianapolis Yacht Club

Paid for by the Indianapolis Yacht Club

Nestled along the waters of Geist Reservoir, the Indianapolis Yacht Club (IYC) offers more than just a place to dock a boat. It’s a lively community where friendships are made, families create lasting memories and members enjoy numerous amenities in an idyllic setting.

The IYC offers two primary membership types: Social Membership and Boating Membership. Both membership options require a one-time initiation fee and annual dues, ensuring members enjoy premium services and facilities year-round.

Social Membership grants members access to all club events, use of the pool (open from May through October) and the opportunity to join the waitlist for a boat slip. Social members can also take advantage of courtesy slips, allowing them to bring their boats to the club temporarily, even if they don’t have a permanent slip.

Boating Membership is reserved for members who have secured a boat slip through the club’s annual dock drawing, which takes place every February. The drawing is based on seniority, so the earlier someone becomes a social member, the better their chances of upgrading to a boating membership when slips become available.

Beyond boating, the IYC is a thriving social hub, offering a diverse calendar packed with family-friendly events, live entertainment and engaging activities. Every Friday night, members can enjoy alternating events like trivia nights and live music, while bigger events such as dances and themed parties take place in the upstairs event space. The club also hosts frequent line-dancing nights, bringing members together for evenings filled with fun.

For those looking to meet new people in the community, the IYC provides an inviting and welcoming atmosphere. “I originally joined four years ago when I was new to the area,” says Elizabeth Jusino, chairman of the board at IYC. “It was a great way to meet people, build friendships and feel connected to my new community.”

Whether you’re an empty-nester looking for a new social scene, a family searching for activities to enjoy together or just wanting a relaxing escape after work, the IYC has something to offer.

The club’s amenities go beyond the docks and event spaces. Chef Paul Kim, owner of Salt & Smoke by Seoul Fresh, operates the club’s grill, offering members delicious dining options during social events and the summertime. The club provides a comfortable and scenic setting including an upper deck with beautiful water views.

Members also receive discounted rates on event rentals, making the club the perfect choice for hosting weddings, anniversaries, business meetings and other special celebrations. With its newly updated facilities, the IYC is the ideal venue for a nautical-themed wedding or an elegant gathering.

For those interested in experiencing the IYC firsthand, the club hosts guest events and open houses throughout the year. These events provide potential members with the chance to see the facilities, meet current members and get a feel for the club’s welcoming atmosphere.

Joining the IYC isn’t just about having access to a boat slip or a pool; it’s about becoming part of a welcoming community of people who love the water, socializing and making the most of life on Geist Reservoir.
