Facebook “Threat”

Center Grove School officials announced to parents today of a “potentially threatening thread on Facebook”. The threat was posted to Facebook Wednesday evening by a freshman student and a comment was added by a 7th grade student from CG Middle School Central. The post was reported by a student to her parents who notified the school. School officials then contacted the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department and the School’s police department.

The student who posted the threat was found at a middle school football game and was taken into custody. The student was put on a 12 hour hold at the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center.  Law enforcement officials do not believe there is an danger to the school or teacher now or in the future. The student did admit to wanting to scare people with the violent threat.

The 7th grade student was found at his home by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department. The deputies spoke wit the student and his parents and the student admitted being involved with the Facebook posting. The offer of his gun was meant to be a joke he said. The student’s parent voluntarily gave a .22 caliber rifle to the sheriff deputy until completion of the the investigation.

The student who made the threat  has been suspended for 10 days pending a recommendation for expulsion. The school issued a statement thanking the parents for reporting the threat and the Sheriff’s Department and the school’s police department for responding quickly to the issue.
