Zing Café, Carmel, has a new owner, CC Holdings Inc., a locally owned restaurant group, but the great food at Zing will remain the same.

David and Sherri Klain, local entrepreneurs known for revitalizing the commercial development in The Village of WestClay, and the creators of Zing Café and Basket Pizzazz, sold Zing Café on May 1 to Kimberly Hendren, president and CEO of CC Holdings Inc.

CC Holdings currently owns and operates 28 food and beverage retail units in the greater Indianapolis, Louisville and Cincinnati markets, according to Hendren. The company is a woman-owned restaurant group operating Copper Moon Coffee, Nature’s Table, Au Bon Pain and Coffee Zon cafes, plus Granite City Food & Brewery.

CC Holdings usually has restaurants in nontraditional settings. The company’s locations in Indianapolis include the campus of IU Health, the Eli Lilly and Company corporate campus, Indiana Government Center, Monument Circle and the Indianapolis International Airport.

David and Sherri Klain started Zing Café three years ago with a focus on creating a community café that not only served The Village of WestClay but also the surrounding areas.

The café is known for its espresso drinks, fruit smoothies and handcrafted breakfasts and lunches. David is a local real estate developer and luxury home builder, while Sherri has owned and operated Basket Pizzazz gifts and candy boutique in The Village for the past nine years.

“We are excited for the community and the café team for this great opportunity to have CC Holdings become a part of The Village Center Shoppes,” David Klain, owner of Zing Café, said in a released statement. “Sherri and I started the café with the intention of creating an amaZING community café and, thanks to the loyal support from our terrific guests, Zing’s success was greater than we ever anticipated. We’re honored that Kim and her company will continue our vision for great coffee and great food in The Village neighborhood.”

Hendren says, “We’re thrilled to be able to continue the tradition of Zing Café in The Village of West Clay, which has recently become my own neighborhood. Our restaurant concepts all focus on fast, casual healthy food, and we’re considering healthy items from our Coffee Zon brand to complement and expand upon Zing Café’s current menu offerings. We look forward to being part of the fabric of this incredible community.”

Hendren says there will be no immediate changes to Zing Café’s menu and restaurant.

“Zing is very successful, and we want to learn and understand how we can best compliment that success,” Hendren says. “We operate in a variety of locations and focus on healthy menu choices that compliment a busy lifestyle. We want to fully understand, if and what would be a plus to this already successful cafe. We will work with the staff and guests to keep what has been so successful and build on what other opportunities exist.”

Hendren is excited for the opportunity to continue the cafe’s success and be involved with the Carmel community.

“I hope to continue, through this transaction, to provide a fun gathering place for our guests, and offer exceptional service with a quality product,” she says. “The more time I have spent in Carmel, the more appreciative I’ve become of all of its value, people, community, entertainment and more. I love the partnership Carmel has afforded me so far, and I look forward to the future.”
