Avon Chamber of Commerce Director Tom Downard and Avon Police Department Chief Sean Stoops went head to head in a friendly fundraising completion on Tuesday, Sept. 13 to raise funds for new helmets and vest plates for the Avon Police Department.
Both were hoisted to the top of the Avon Community School Corporation Administration building by the Avon Fire Department’s ladder truck where they were to stay until they reached their goal of $5,000 each.
Both Downard and Stoops reached their goal within about 20 hours after an overnight stay on the roof.
The donations continued to roll in even after they came down off the roof, earning the Avon Police Department over $17,000.
