“I really take pride in our workout and the personal part of it all,” says Founder Clarence Walton. “You can text me and talk to me about anything. We’re just here for you.”

The establishment was started by Walton in 2012. Alongside his team of personal trainers, Walton aims to help clients achieve their fitness goals, from tailored exercise routines to need-specific nutritional programs to competition preparation.

A native of Fort Wayne, Walton started training out of his garage in 1996. After moving to Indianapolis and working as a personal training director for LA Fitness, he decided to branch off and start his own gym, achieving a longtime goal.

“I always wanted my own gym,” Walton says. “I always wanted to be hands-on with people. I like human interaction. I like the results. I like seeing how people feel when they get results. They really feel good about themselves, and that’s a reward for me.”

Since its humble beginnings, Strength Factory has grown along with its clients.

“We’ve grown from two trainers to 12 trainers in the past 10 years,” Walton says. “We went from a 40-square-foot place to this 3,300-square-foot facility.”

From the start, education has been at the heart of the facility.

“The main thing I wanted to do was teach them how to live healthier,” Walton says of his clients. “At the big-box gyms they get away from educating and just go through the motions. I want to teach them how they can do it by themselves and educate them more on fitness.”

After clients first get in touch, Walton meets with them to make sure a fitness plan is catered specifically to their needs. This includes making sure a client is paired with the right trainer.

Strength Factory“The first thing I have them do is come in for an assessment,” Walton says. “The assessment helps me to understand what level you’re on, how serious you are, if you have any injuries, your weight and stuff like that, and it helps me to get to know you so I can place you with the right trainer.”

Every month the trainers keep track of their clients’ activities, weight loss and muscle growth in order to gauge progress.

“We check your measurements every month – your neck, waist, hips, arms, calves, legs and stomach,” Walton says. “We compare that to the last month’s results, and see if you’ve gotten any better.”

While keeping track of this progress is important, Walton’s true hope is that clients move forward in life feeling empowered.

“After you train with me or my trainers here, you can train with anybody,” he says. “You should feel accomplished. You should feel like you can do and conquer anything.”
