Matt Harakal, owner of 21 NORTH Eatery + Cellar, has thoroughly enjoyed his work at the restaurant and is looking forward to the future.

“I am the second owner of 21 NORTH,” Harakal says. “I was hired on as executive chef in 2017 and purchased the business in 2019. We’ve expanded over the years from 45 seats to 120 seats.”

Harakal is also adding some new and exciting amenities to the establishment.

“We are building a brand-new, custom kitchen with a private chef’s table,” he says. “It’s awesome.”

The eatery is housed in an old, charming structure in downtown Martinsville. “I do not know the exact dates of the building, but it is before 1910,” Harakal says.

Plenty of compliments are paid to the interior of the rustic-modern eatery.

“The original brick of the building was saved and there is also the original poplar wood floor in our second dining room,” Harakal says.

Harakal offers a large variety of bourbons, and a huge selection of fine wines and cocktails stored in beer cellar cooling systems.

21 NORTH Eatery + Cellar“We have a selection of favorite bourbons, rye, and Scotch whiskies,” Harakal says. “We also have an interest in wines from Italy, Spain and France, and a large selection from the west coast. We have a seasonal cocktail menu as well.”

Harakal praises his excellent staff and many of the Indiana breweries that make the outstanding beers served there.

“We have some great local breweries like Cedar Creek, Switchyard and Black Dog,” he says. “They are producing incredible beers.”

Harakal also acknowledges his loyal regulars as the key to his success and growing business.

“They are the best,” he says. “We know what they like, and what food and drinks they love.”

During lunch hours customers can enjoy the Traditional Cuban Sandwich, made with Kentucky ham, pulled pork, mustard, Swiss cheese and Cubano bread, along with fries, or the Beer Battered Fish & Chips, among many other options.

The restaurant also features popular Petite Plates, which are served for both lunch and dinner. They include the Lemon Pepper Dusted Calamari, Shrimp Cocktail, Pork Dumplings, and the Still Best Wings Ever. Other popular meals include the Wagyu Burger with 100% Wagyu beef, and the House Made Quinoa Black Bean Burger.

Variety in the chef-inspired menu also keeps loyal and hungry customers coming back for more.

“We change the menus constantly, so a couple could experience some fresh seafood from New England one night or Wagyu steak the next, and have an authentic Spanish tapas experience the next night – and did we mention the popular bourbon?” Harakal says.

He is always looking forward to seeing additional new faces at the restaurant.

21 NORTH has a large following and many regulars, but there is opportunity to gain even more exposure. With the construction of Interstate 69, it is only a short drive from the Center Grove area.

“We are just 18 miles southwest,” Harakal says. “We want people to come to the square and experience something very special. Come check out all the great things in Martinsville.”
