Pet Suites has moved into Westfield, offering a new boarding option for local pets. Angel Becerril, the store manager at Westfield Pet Suites, describes the typical guest experience there.
For puppies, the day begins with a meal, followed by playtime, when they interact with other puppies around their age. After a rest period, they play again around 3:30 p.m., and then again at 6:00 p.m.
Day-care dogs head straight to group play after arrival, where they socialize with fellow guests. Those who have booked a room receive a personal lunch, followed by a rest period to digest, before returning outside for more playtime.
The rooms themselves are cleaned and disinfected frequently, Becerril explains. He also highlights their terraces – an option he believes sets them apart from other boarding options. “Our guests can go in and out as they please,” he says.
All suites include bedding, housekeeping, room service, potty walks, and a “Pawgress” report at the end of the stay. For those seeking the VIP treatment for their pets, the luxury suites offer raised beds and even personal TVs.
For many owners, leaving their pet alone can be daunting. Pet Suites provides reports to keep owners in the loop, including a daily puppy report for the younger guests, which includes a photo of the dog. The luxury suites even include a webcam, allowing the owners to check in on their pets.
Cats are also welcome. Their two-story Cat Condos include a bed, privacy panels, a private litter box, daily housekeeping and room service, and even a window or TV view.
Beyond boarding, Pet Suites offers training with personal trainers using positive reinforcement and reward-based methods. “We work with puppies all the way to older dogs,” Becerril says. “[The trainers] tell us more about the dog’s behavior, what they recommend us to do, how to introduce them into the group and so on.”
For those wanting some pet pampering, their grooming options include baths, blowouts, nail trims, ear cleanings, scented body sprays, full-body haircuts and even deluxe “pawdicures.” The list of services is quite extensive and will vary based on what the customer chooses.
For Becerril, a highlight of the job is the connections fostered with the animals. “It’s just great to see how the dogs’ personalities come out when they come in,” he says. “They become part of your family too, like your dogs far away from home.”
When you get to spend all day working with animals, memorable stories are bound to happen. Becerril recounts how the dogs have learned to listen for their names on the staff walkie-talkies to know who is going home. “Every time someone is going home, we call their name through the walkie and they get excited,” he says. “If a dog hears their best friend’s name, they’ll even cry. It’s great getting to see the relationships they have in the group.”
Becerril encourages anyone interested to visit them at 17502 Carey Road in Westfield.
