When Tim Walker moved to Indiana from Michigan in June of 2014, he never expected to co-found his own business. He accepted a position with an Indiana-based financial firm, but wanted to return to his passion for music and recording.

Round Table RecordingWalker met Corey Miller and Travis Moore, and through those friendships a dream was born. In November of 2020 the friends opened Round Table Recording Company (RTRC) in Broad Ripple. Opening during the pandemic meant much of the studio completion was a hands-on event for the friends.

Each of the men has an extensive background in producing, engineering, writing and composing. Moore serves as co-founder, as well as chief engineer and producer. Walker is co-founder and studio manager, and Miller is the studio’s chief engineer and producer.

RTRC offers several areas within the facility for clients to get creative and inspired. The Diamond Room, or Studio A, is the largest at the complex, offering more than 1,600 square feet of space. The Raven Room, or Studio B, offers dual live rooms with different acoustic profiles, and more than 1,000 square feet of production space. Studio C is the moderate-sized Control Room, equipped for recording, music production, podcasting, mixing and mastering.

Additional amenities include a kitchen/musician lounge, classroom and conference room. The kitchen/musician lounge is home to a pinball machine, hundreds of vintage video games and a 55” smart TV.

“It was very important to us that the space didn’t feel sterile,” Moore says. “We wanted it to be vibrant and unlike any other recording studio. People walk in and are just amazed. It’s been very well-received.”

RTRC can accommodate local musicians as well as nationally recognized recording artists. The team chose to open their studio in Indiana because of the deep well of talent in the area.

“We don’t want this to be a transactional experience,” Walker says. “It’s more than that. We have a deep passion for what we do and our staff is extremely talented. We also wanted people to know you don’t have to go to a larger city like Los Angeles or Nashville to do a record.”

The idea of sharing their knowledge and teaching others is paramount to the group of friends. RTRC offers a recording arts program, offering one-on-one instruction, group labs and group workshops. Students receive real-work experience and mentoring from active professionals.

“The education program is our opportunity to share our passion and knowledge for the recording arts with students who would like to make a career in the music business,” Walker says. “It allows us to attract and develop young talent. It’s the best way to find new members of the Round Table team and give them opportunities to begin their careers. The students always bring a fresh perspective and lots of creative energy. They help to keep a pulse on what is new and current.”

Round Table RecordingThe staff of 13 is lovingly referred to as the Round Table. The various engineers and producers are each skilled in different music genres. Most have previously worked as freelancers but now have a place to call home at RTRC.

“The growth is confirmation that we had a good plan, and it has allowed us to begin working on other parts of our dream,” Walker says. “It’s given us the opportunity to hire extremely talented engineers and producers, and provide a home to explore their passion for their client’s music and their personal aspirations.”

Round Table Recording Company is located at 6345 Carrollton Avenue in Indianapolis. For more information, call 317-981-5351 or visit thertrc.com.
