August’s Featured First Friday artist is Lisa VanMeter Walls, a professional printmaker who began her career at the Indianapolis Art Center in 2006. After establishing her artistic foundation, she launched an Etsy store, joined two co-op galleries and found a home at the Harrison Center.
As a printmaker, Walls utilizes oil-based inks and primarily works with basswood blocks. Among the various types of printmaking, she specializes in creating color-reduction woodcuts, with much of her artwork focusing on natural landscapes and animal life.
“I’m inspired by nature’s color palettes and the many small wonders that take my breath away daily,” she says.
The exhibit will feature a diverse collection of woodcuts in various sizes and colors, along with several paintings, etchings and monoprints.
This free event runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the HC near 16th and Delaware. In addition to the exhibition, there is also live music, open art studios and other activities to create a vibrant community atmosphere.
