For Katelynn Jefferson, owning a barbershop means more than giving someone a great haircut. It’s about creating a place where clients feel welcomed, valued and confident, and where relationships can grow over time. That vision is at the heart of K8 Fades, Jefferson’s family-style barbershop serving kids, teens and adult men in her hometown of Noblesville. K8 Fades specializes in all types of haircuts, beard trims and straight-razor lineups.
But Jefferson believes the experience goes beyond the services offered. “We want each guest to leave feeling better,” she says.
The idea for K8 Fades began during the uncertainty of 2020. As the COVID-19 pandemic changed how businesses operated, Jefferson wanted a place of her own where she could keep serving her clients while providing a safe, comfortable environment. Clients started calling her and asked her to come to their homes to cut their hair, which made her realize there was a real need and an opportunity to build something of her own.
That realization led Jefferson to open her Carmel location in 2021.
Today, she has brought that business back to where it all began for her: Noblesville. “I grew up in Noblesville; it’s my hometown,” Jefferson says. “I graduated from Noblesville High School, and now my son just started elementary school here too.”
The move to Noblesville was a labor of love. While continuing to run the Carmel location during the day, Jefferson spent her evenings remodeling the new shop alongside her son and sister, with help from contractors. The transformation took just 20 days, a whirlwind effort driven by her goal of opening before Noblesville schools started back.
Jefferson has created a welcoming neighborhood barbershop that she hopes will feel less like a business and more like an extension of the community. Even the name has a personal story. “K8” originally appeared on Jefferson’s license plate as a nod to her name, Kate. She eventually adopted K8 Fades as her Instagram name so clients could find her work, and she ultimately made the name her business’s identity.
Today, relationships remain one of the most important parts of Jefferson’s work. Many of her longtime clients have become close friends, allowing her to share in some of their biggest milestones. She has watched clients get married, purchase homes and start families, and eventually welcome their children into her chair.
“I think our shop feels like family,” she says.
That philosophy starts the moment a new guest walks through the door. Manager Abbie Jefferson, Katelynn’s sister, greets clients and offers them a drink right away, setting the tone for a friendly, welcoming experience. Jefferson believes those small touches matter, particularly in an industry where trust and personal connection are essential.
The Noblesville community has responded enthusiastically to K8 Fades’ arrival. Families from nearby neighborhoods have stopped in out of curiosity, and many have left with a new look they love and a new connection to a local business.
For Jefferson, being part of that community also means giving back. K8 Fades has already sponsored a little league baseball team, and Jefferson has volunteered at the Cooper House to provide back-to-school haircuts for local families. With additional community initiatives in the works, she considers those efforts an important part of the shop’s future.
“Having my own local business means everything to me,” Jefferson says. “We’re not just a barbershop in the community. We’re part of the community now.”
Looking ahead, Jefferson envisions continued growth without sacrificing the personal, family-owned atmosphere that makes K8 Fades special. She hopes to expand her clientele and team while becoming one of the most recognized and trusted barbershops in Noblesville, and eventually, Hamilton County.
For Jefferson, success won’t simply depend on the number of haircuts the shop gives.
She will measure it by the relationships she builds along the way. Ultimately, she wants K8 Fades to earn a reputation not only for great haircuts, but for creating a culture where everyone feels like family, and for making a positive impact on the community Jefferson has always called home.
