The swankiest new place in town just opened a few months ago, and it perfectly combines traditional tastes and a sophisticated ambience to create a cosmopolitan experience. Rivera’s Mexican Fine Dining, growing at a rapid pace after soft-launching in June 2026, is a fantastic addition to the dining scene of Muncie.
With cuisine that has roots in Michoacán, Mexico, Rivera’s Mexican Fine Dining is run by the Rivera family. Originally, the spot was home to Casa Del Sol, a Tex-Mex restaurant owned by Manuel Rivera, where his nephew, Luis Rivera, a graduate of Ball State University’s Miller College of Business, worked as a waiter during his school years. At the end of 2025, Luis and other uncles Oscar and Omar Rivera took ownership of the eatery, transforming it into an upscale dining experience.
The menu features a variety of items, from appealing appetizers to enticing entrées to delectable desserts. Starters feature both meat and seafood dishes as well as other tasty classics. The mains are inspired by the heart of Mexican cuisine, with classic recipes elevated for a fine dining experience. The menu also features steak, salad and seafood dishes if personal favorites are desired. A large list of tacos is also provided on the menu, with delectable, authentic options for every flavor palette. The list of desserts contains both well-loved afters and Michoacán specialties, like Pastel de Tres Leches, Chongos Zamoranos and Churros, with numerous options that are sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. The menu is presented by Head Chef Juan Aldrete.
Diving deeper into the menu, standout appetizers include Trío Mexicano, which serves guests chips with three choices of dip: guacamole, cheese dip and refried beans; the Brasas Trío, which features fire-grilled skewers that have shrimp, steak and chicken, all seasoned well and served with a house sauce; and Elotes Artesanal, a classy take on street corn, served in a trio of halves.
Eye-catching entrées include Rivera’s Grand Grill Selection, which includes your choice of protein served over sautéed peppers, onions and tomatoes with rice, beans, sour cream and pico de gallo; Enchiladas Mexicanas, four enchiladas with chicken, potatoes, beans, queso and an assortment of toppings; and Birria Don Luis, a classic Mexican dish with beef brisket served in broth, topped with cilantro and diced onions, served with tortillas and a lime wedge.
The menu doesn’t just have great food options — it has a wide array of cocktails, too! The concoctions that are the restaurant’s featured drinks have bases that range from tequila to mezcal to gin to rum to lagers to wine. Some of the spotlighted drinks are beloved classics with a twist, like the El Vaquero Old Fashioned featuring tequila and mezcal with added orange bitters, as well as standout specials like The Platinum Paloma, which has blanco tequila, lime juice, sea salt and carbonated grapefruit soda, served with a chili-salt rim. However, if adventurous cocktails aren’t your thing, Rivera’s has you covered with classic drinks like a Mezcal Mule, Piña Colada or a selection of margaritas. Other offerings include standalone liquors, including tequila, mezcal, wine and beer.
The theme of family is woven tightly throughout this elevated establishment, with Jennifer Rivera, sister to Luis, managing the restaurant from day to day, while Luis handles things behind the scenes with the help of his father, Oscar, and Omar, all while he works full-time at PrimeTrust Federal Credit Union. Luis and the entire Rivera family have worked hard to get where they are today, and when asked what he would tell his past self, Luis said to, “…[not] stress too much about the work that’s in front of you. One way or another, the work has to get done … the earth has to spin the same way.”
Meanwhile, the community has reacted positively. Although the restaurant is still early in its review days, it has a 4.3/5-star review on Yelp. Reviewers rave about the quality of food and the poise of the staff.
Luis says, “We’re happy to be in the community and be in a location where [people] can … be taken care of. We have high-quality food that is very unique for people in Muncie and the surrounding areas to come and try.”
This restaurant is sure to become one of the trendiest places in town that can’t be missed out on. Open every day of the week, reservations can be made through the Rivera’s website.
