The staff at Essence Spa & Salon in Plymouth offers health and wellness services to help clients look and feel their best.
Owner Julie Sweeney has been in the industry for 15 years, and her passion for helping others remains strong.
Whether the Essence staff is creating new hair colors and styles to make customers feel beautiful, or giving facials to brighten and rejuvenate skin, its collective mission is to bring out each and every client’s inner beauty.
“I strive to help the people in the community,” Sweeney says. “There are so many natural services they can benefit from, and I feel blessed to have a place where I can offer those amenities.”
Sweeney transplanted to Plymouth from California in 2001 to be closer to her family. Her daughter Ellianna has grown up in the industry and shares Sweeney’s passion.
“There have been so many influential people in my life,” Sweeney says. “I was taught to work hard for the things you want. Essence Spa & Salon has been a dream of mine for a long time, and it would have never become a reality without the love and support of my family and staff. I have an amazing staff that has been with me for over 12 years. They are a great group of talented, kind, hardworking ladies that provide exceptional customer service.”
There are 12 licensed staff members at Essence to help every client look and feel their best. Diana Meadors is the friendly face and voice at the front desk who coordinates appointments and answers questions from clients.
Many of the Essence staff members hold more than one license, and are listed by their primary specialty. Melissa Ferguson, Courtney Dubie, Candice Gomez, Chrisa Eastburn, Karissa Duff, Katelyn Vervynckt, Cailee Brummett and Katie Long all serve as cosmetologists at the shop, and the esthetician and nail technician is Amy Guerra.
Essence massage therapists include Jessica Sliter, Pam Mahler-Lee and Angie Holstein.
As a full-service salon, Essence offers cuts, perms, color and highlights, hair treatments, styling, manicures, pedicures, paraffin dips, wax and sugar hair removal, and tanning. The shop’s most popular wellness services include the Himalayan salt lounge, BEMER Bed, infrared sauna with chromotherapy lighting, and medical-grade salt float tank.
The BEMER Bed incorporates electromagnetic field therapy to increase blood flow, enhance the body’s nutrient and waste disposal, improve cardiac function, and promote fitness, endurance, strength and energy. Concentration, mental sharpness, stress reduction, relaxation and sleep management can also be improved with BEMER therapy.
Chromotherapy – or color therapy – used in the infrared sauna at the spa can be beneficial for insomnia, calming the nervous system, eliminating toxins and alleviating inflammation.
The medical-grade salt float tank can help to relieve stress, anxiety and depression. The magnesium-enriched water increases the production of dopamine and endorphins.
Additional therapeutic spa options include massage, aromatherapy and facials. Massage times are 30 to 90 minutes, with an add-on menu that includes cupping, prenatal and deep tissue options, hot stones and aromatherapy.
Rejuvenating facials include Glow and Go (a 30-minute facial that targets specific skin needs), Essence Facial (60 minutes of facial relaxation, cleansing, mask and massage), Acne Clarifying (for problem skin), Age Defying (improves fine lines, wrinkles, uneven tone and age spots), as well as facial peels (improves skin texture, color and clarity).
Sweeney has a passion for helping and meeting new people, and building relationships in the community. She is grateful for the support and warm welcome she and the staff at Essence have received from local residents throughout the years.
The Essence staff seeks to promote healthy lifestyles, and strives for quality service that will help clients look and feel their best.
While walk-ins are welcome, customers are encouraged to contact the spa and make an appointment for high-demand services.
