Geist Dam Getting Facelift This Fall
Representatives from Veolia Water attended the August 17th Geist Harbours Property Owners Association board meeting to discuss their plans to give the 66-year-old Geist dam a makeover. Beginning in mid-October, large concrete blocks connected by cables called Armortech Mats will be placed on top of the existing slope to prevent further erosion of the dam. Trucks will deliver these Armortech Mats through Feather Cove to the dam site and cranes will be used to position them in place. Equipment noise, truck noise, and heavier traffic than usual will be experienced in the area through the end of the year.
Paul Whitmore, Communications Director for Veolia, and Ted Williams, Project Manager of the dam construction, will be hosting meetings in the coming months for Masthead and Feather Cove residents in an effort to educate and alert homeowners near the dam. If you have questions about the project, please contact Paul Whitmore via email or call 317-263-6517.
