Fort Harrison Reuse Authority Releases Plans to Further Improve 56th

The Fort Harrison Reuse Authority is proud to unveil plans for the gateway to Lawrence Village at the Fort, a Live – Work – Play, Village style community.

Thanks to grant funds secured from Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, the Fort Harrison Reuse Authority will make vast landscape improvements to the 56th Street corridor which borders the Lawrence Village development. Highlighting this initiative is a KIB Volunteer Day on Sept. 15, when able-bodied area residents will plant more than 130 trees along the median between 56th
Street’s eastbound and westbound lanes.

States Ehren Bingaman, Executive Director, Fort Harrison Reuse Authority, “We want to make 56th Street a ‘Grand Boulevard’ experience. We want people to realize they’re coming into something different and unique – that’s walk-able, inviting and safe. This incredible partnership between the Fort Harrison Reuse Authority and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful will make that goal a reality, improving the area of 56th Street bordering Lawrence Village at the Fort for many years to come.”

The Fort Harrison Reuse Authority completed a massive road improvement project on 56th Street in 2000, widening the two-lane roadway to a four-lane connector with Pendleton Pike. Following completion, the value of 56th Street as a viable commercial marketplace has steadily increased, while enhancing the living experience for homeowners nearby.

The Fort Harrison Reuse Authority and KIB have received tremendous interest
in the Sept. 15 Volunteer Day, and continue to seek volunteers interested in
boosting the 56th Street experience. For more information on KIB Volunteer
Day at Lawrence Village at the Fort, visit the FHRA Web site at www.fhra.org
