For Fishers High School senior swimmer Emily Wolf, success in the pool has never been measured solely by times, medals or accomplishments. For her, some of the most meaningful parts of her swimming journey have been the people beside her.

Wolf credits her teammates as the greatest influence on her development as both an athlete and a person. While swimming can sometimes feel like an individual sport, Wolf has learned that reaching big goals takes the support and commitment of an entire team.

“My teammates remind me that swimming isn’t an individual sport, even though it can sometimes feel like it,” Wolf says. “It takes a team and their support to accomplish goals.”

From early-morning practices to successful races and disappointing performances, Wolf ’s teammates have been there throughout the journey. They have taught her how to celebrate the accomplishments of others, stay motivated and work toward something bigger than herself.

As she looks back on her high school career, Wolf believes those relationships will ultimately mean more than any time on the scoreboard.

“Long after high school swimming, I know that I will remember the relationships and memories I’ve made more than times or accomplishments,” she says.

One of those memories came at last year’s Indiana high school state meet. Fishers entered the meet with a young team and questions about what it could accomplish. Throughout the season, athletes stepped up to lead, and that effort culminated in a runner-up finish — the program’s first in three years.

For Wolf, the experience was special because everyone contributed. “We all came together, had so many amazing swims and all did our part to earn the runner-up title,” she says.

Wolf also had the opportunity to swim the meet’s first individual event, the 200 freestyle, alongside her freshman teammate Ashlyn Hayes. Sharing that experience added another memorable moment to an already significant meet.

Behind those accomplishments is the discipline required to compete at a high level. Swimming demands early mornings, long practices and a significant commitment, but Wolf has learned that finding balance is just as important.

She makes a point of separating her swimming life from her personal life and prioritizing time with family and friends, academics and other interests. That balance, she says, helps keep her motivated in the pool.

“Swimming has taught me a lot about time management and prioritizing what’s important,” Wolf says.

That discipline will serve her well as she prepares for the next chapter at North Carolina State University. Wolf is excited to spend the next four years challenging herself in a new environment and competing at the collegiate level with a team she already loves.

Her ambitions extend beyond college swimming. Wolf is looking ahead to the 2028 Olympic Trials and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles with big goals.

Away from competition, she is also looking forward to experiencing a new chapter of life, building relationships and creating new memories.

Wolf’s connection to swimming also has provided an opportunity to give back. She teaches swim lessons through the FAST lessons program, helping introduce young swimmers to a sport that has played such an important role in her own life.

Wolf began swimming lessons when she was young and understands the impact a positive introduction to the sport can have.

“It’s so fun to be able to help introduce kids to a sport that has become such a huge part of my life and given me so many opportunities,” she says.

Whether she is racing for Fishers, preparing for college or teaching the next generation of swimmers, Wolf is carrying forward lessons that extend far beyond the pool: teamwork, balance, perseverance and the importance of helping others.

As she prepares to dive into the next chapter, Wolf leaves Fishers High School with more than a collection of accomplishments. She leaves with teammates who became friends, memories that will last a lifetime and a foundation built through years of dedication to the sport she loves.
