Dr. Daniel S. Martin and his staff take the orthodontic needs of their patients in Franklin very seriously, but they make it a fun and enjoyable experience for kids and parents, with lots of banter, jokes and even cool contests! When you walk into the beautiful office off of West Jefferson Street, you are greeted with smiles. It is decorated with seasonal decorations and there is a coffee bar.
But it didn’t all start out like this. Martin and Practice Manager Becky Hunter started down the street, giving orthodontic care to another practice’s patients in 2005. Hunter is from Franklin and they recognized the town needed an orthodontist, so they started building a practice. It took time to build relationships and a patient load large enough to open their office, but together they did it. In 2010 they opened their current office.
The fun atmosphere isn’t the only thing that sets Martin Orthodontics apart. Martin’s approach to care is also unique to his field. “I believe that there are lifelong benefits to having a beautiful and healthy smile,” he says. “Using state-of-the-art technology, methodology and equipment, I can provide quality treatment to people of all ages. In my practice, I emphasize proper tooth and jaw development, avoiding extraction of teeth whenever possible to give patients the healthy, happy smiles they deserve.”
Patients and parents are never made to feel forced into a treatment or a high payment plan to fix an orthodontic issue. Martin makes getting orthodontic care at his office affordable and accessible, and Treatment Coordinator Haley Lane takes time with each patient and their parents to communicate clearly the suggested plan of care, as well as the payment plan. She is then sure to answer any questions, so everyone feels comfortable before moving forward.
This approach to orthodontic care has been very successful in Franklin, and the practice had to bring on a second orthodontist. Dr. David Comstock wanted to join the office because he had known Martin from his early days at Franklin College. He used to shadow Martin in 2012 while studying at Franklin College. He always wanted to come back to his hometown to give care to the people in his community. Now he and his wife enjoy walking their corgis, Echo and Tango, as well as taking rides on his motorcycle, a Yamaha MT-09, together all around Franklin.
These doctors have other similarities besides their patient approach; they are also both big Colts fans. Sports teams are always being talked about at the office. Martin is a big IU fan, and jokes about not hiring anyone who is a Boilermaker. Lane jokes back that she never mentioned it in her interview because she wanted the job, but loves to bring it up now and give Martin a hard time. He takes it all in stride with a big smile. It is clear he cares for his staff as much as he does his patients.
Whether a patient is 8 or 38, they can expect to feel welcome at Daniel S. Martin Orthodontics. They can also expect to get top-notch care that gives them the smile they always wanted. When they return to the office years later for a visit or bring in one of their kids for care, they will be shocked when Martin and Hunter remember them by name.
