Here is the latest in stupid government. In Fishers Star on November 16, 2007 is an article on a new user fee for Storm Water and the creation of a new Board. A new board, oh yes, and do you want to bet a bunch of staff people to back them up. More government. What would be wrong if this board were not created and instead added as a function to the sewer board? No way, can’t grow government that way. Next come the bills they are going to send out four times a year. Hey guys I have a plan – add it to the sewer bills that are mailed out anyway. Let see approximately 20.611 households at $4.55 a month that’s only $1,125,360 a year now lets add the 1500 business in town and you get a total income of 1.2 million dollars. Want to bet the sewer company could do it for less and no more people on the government payroll.
Now what is this board going to do.
Inspection for illicit discharge- why not issue fines for this and earn income from the people who are bad and not from all the good homeowners.
Reduce storm water pollution from government – well if we had smaller government we would have less pollution. If we had properly designed parks and buildings we would have less pollution, but why brother, we can’t tax more if we do.
And finally education and my favorite under this one is “adopt a road” aren’t we already doing this under the highways department. Now we claim we need to do under water, or is this just a shell game. Now we are going to teach in schools, that when it rains, water flows down the streets and into a ditch that is attached to a storm sewer that runs into a creek and then into either a lake or river. Class done – spend another million next year.
I am surprised they didn’t include stop the rain.
And best yet this announcement was made after the election. Well that didn’t matter the people of Fishers don’t care to stand up stop the guys running the town anyway. Its their own private town and now you have them for another long four years of tax increase any way they can do it.

Bagel, There are a lot of good "common sense" solutions that you have suggested. Too bad you couldn't have run as a candidate for the Fishers Town Council. But my guess is that you don't live in the Fishers city limits, but probably are a resident of the Geist area. The people of Geist seem to know how to come up with ways to stretch the dollar and make it work harder, rather than throw taxpayer's money around. Maybe that is why Fishers Town Council can't seem to figure out how the Towns of Geist proposed tax rate is coming out lower than the Town of Fishers tax rate. It's called Frugality!
You said the Town of Fishers Tax Rate is coming out lower than the Town of Geist Tax Rate. What comic book have you been reading. The Town of Geist tax rate if the town is approved is much lower than the the Fishers rate. The only people who seem to think Fishers is lower is the Town Council. It seems they like to tell stories about all the free things Geist people get from Fishers and everyone of them is shot down over and over. So if you believe Fishers has a lower tax rate its just another tall tail form the Fishers spending Town Council. BTW- you are right I don't live in Fishers and I don't want to live in Fishers, I don't want to live in a community govern by a group that has forgotten what is right and wrong. It is wrong to force your will on people who did not elect you nor have any say in your government. Now you are right that we will find better and smarter ways to save money and not waste it on expensive town halls, we won't waste the taxpayers money. I want to make one thing clear I have nothing against the people of Fishers its only the County Club Town Council.
Bagel, before you get all huffy, please read the "Just an Observation" comment again. It actually says "…the Towns of Geist proposed tax rate is coming out lower than the Town of Fishers tax rate." You seem to believe it said the opposite of that.
The concept of right and wrong is obviously important to you. That being said, please be sure to read carefully.
BG, Bagel is right. I had a "senior moment" and transposed the town names in the original post, which made the statement exactly the opposite of what I meant. I asked the Webmaster to correct my error and he graciously made the correction. (I need to proofread before clicking submit.)
Just an Observation – Thank you for the correction. I guess the only ones reading comic books are the Fishers Town Council since they believe what they say.
BG – You are very correct the concept of right and wrong is very important to me and it should be to all. If everyone believed in right and wrong, we would not have annexation by Fishers without the consent of the people. What would happen if Fishers held an election by the people of Geist on yes or no to annexation? They don't dare because they know the outcome. Pitty, Pitty, Pitty.
