Area Attractions Offer Fall Family Fun

Smith Farm pumpkin patch No doubt about it. Fall weather and cooler temperatures just scream, “Day trip!” There are wonderful local possibilities when it comes to packing up the car and heading out for a day of beautiful fall sights. Whether it’s pumpkins, corn mazes or great food that attracts you, there is something for everyone. Check out some of these  local attractions, sure to fit the bill for a cool fall outing.

Goat grooming Smith Family Farms. If your kids love animals, this is the place to go. Smith Family Farms, located just three miles west of Pendleton, features a petting barn, where you’ll see at least seven different kinds of farm animals including two of its newest additions; “Trigger” the miniature horse and “Eeyore” the miniature donkey. Open every weekend in October, you’ll also enjoy a three-acre corn maze, wagon rides, pumpkin picking and a farm playground. Other activities include pony rides, arts and crafts, and face painting. spencer berry farm Spencer Farm. If you’re in the mood to eat mouth-watering berries, you’ll want to include Spencer Farm on the list of your fall excursions. Located in Zionsville, you can get your fill of berries, homemade pies, fudge and ice cream. Through early October, you can pick your own red raspberries and purchase as much fresh produce as you can handle. And if you need fall decorating supplies, you’ll love the field-grown chrysanthemums, as well as corn stalks and hay bales. On weekends, hayrides are available, taking you to a patch full of pumpkins. And you won’t want to leave without tasting their fresh caramel apples, sure to make you swoon. Find out more at

Stony Creek Farm. Beginning Sept. 26, you can visit Stony Creek Farm and enjoy its 37th Annual Pumpkin Harvest Festival, which will run through Oct. 31. This Noblesville attraction features a variety of activities, including pony rides, games, farm animals and a haunted house. You can also enjoy a hayride through the woods to a secluded pumpkin patch, where you can pick out the pumpkin of your choice. For more information visit

Traders Point Creamery. If you’d like to include a great meal with your outing, you’ll love a visit to Traders Point Creamery, located in Zionsville. Known for their Sunday brunches every weekend from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., you can also visit the creamery on Friday nights through October for the Green Market & Dinner on the Deck, from 4 – 8 p.m. Vendors display their wares on the front lawn, with dinner served out on the deck from 5 – 8 p.m. Farm tours are also included at 5 p.m., when visitors can see the creamery process in action. Tuttles0020 Tuttle Orchards. Located in Greenfield, just 15 minutes east of Lawrence, Tuttle Orchards can bring apple lovers to their knees. With 10 acres of dwarf variety apple trees, you won’t go home empty-handed. September is the best month for picking apples, and you’ll have plenty to choose from. You’ll also enjoy an eight-acre pumpkin patch that opens in October, along with an agri-maze, which will challenge the whole family. Average time to complete it is 30 minutes. For details, visit

Watermans Farm Market. Located on East Raymond Street in Indianapolis, Waterman’s Farm Market hosts its Fall Harvest Festival, from Sept. 26 thru Oct. 31. You’ll enjoy the well-known Tyranny, a pumpkin-eating ty”rascal”asaurus here, who roars as she chomps pumpkins and entertains the crowd. With live entertainment on weekends, you can also watch children tackle a straw mountain, or play in a Bouncy Barnstorm that includes seven large inflatables to enjoy. Check out
