City of Fishers Celebrates Community Volunteers at City of Service Awards

Youth Mentoring Initiative volunteer recognized as Nonprofit Volunteer of the Year at last night’s event

February 27, 2019 (FISHERS, IND.) – The City of Fishers honored community volunteers during its third-annual City of Service Awards last night. The celebration recognized local volunteers and civil servants who have donated their time and talent to the smart, vibrant, and entrepreneurial Fishers community.

2018 volunteerism highlights include:

  • Fishers Fire Corps donated nearly 800 volunteer hours to the Fishers Fire Department.
  • Volunteers donated 2,376 hours to the Fishers Police Department.
  • Fishers Parks & Recreation had a 46% increase in volunteer hours compared to 2017.
  • Volunteers donated more than 3,200 hours to Fishers Parks & Recreation. This is equivalent to a $79,319.84 cash value on a national scale.
  • White River Cleanup volunteers planted 1,000 native plants within two rain garden plots.

Last night’s award winners include:

  • Fishers Parks & Recreation Adult Volunteer of the Year – Vicki Guenther
  • Fishers Parks & Recreation Youth Volunteer of the Year – Anudeep Annangi
  • Fishers Department of Public Works Volunteer of the Year – Kerrie Wincek
  • Fishers Fire & EMS Volunteer of the Year – Christopher Allen
  • Fishers Police Department Volunteer of the Year – Russell Lopez
  • HSE Schools Foundation Volunteer of the Year – Shelley Jackson
  • HSE Schools 2018 Teacher of the Year – John Hochstetler
  • Nonprofit Volunteer of the Year –  LeeAnn Barclay, Youth Mentoring Initiative (community nominated award)
