Greenwood Parks Board Gives a Boost to Art on the Trail Program

Parks Board Donation

The Parks Board voted at their last meeting to make a $5,000.00 donation to the Greater Greenwood Arts Council to expand their Art on the Trailways program for next year. The current sculptures will be removed in March, and the new ones will go up in April. The Arts Council is currently fundraising to support this program. “The Greenwood community is excited to see this program take off.” It is another great reason to visit, and it enhances our trails.” Mark W. Myers – Mayor.

The donation is indicative of the Park Board’s dedication to the area development of trails. “We received a lot of positive feedback about the existing artwork. It is a boost for the community and the area,” said Mike Sawa – President of the Greenwood Parks Board. “With this donation, we hope the Arts Council can expand the program.”

This will be the second national open call to artists, for the Art on the Trailways program. It will go out Mid-December, and will be selected for installation in April. According to Angela Stelljes – Greater Greenwood Arts Council, “We will bring together a panel of art experts to evaluate the submissions. Last time we had a good response from the artist community. There was a lot of existing sculptures to choose from.” Plans are underway to reveal the new sculptures in the spring. Find out more about Art on the Trailways at: www.GreenwoodArts.org.
